Last year the most epic game in the history of ancient coin games got underway right here on the CoinTalk ancient’s board. For many of the coins that participated, the titanic struggles during this game will go down in legend as the defining moment of their 2000+ year coin-careers!... seriously… that epic! :cyclops:

Who can forget such classics as when the mighty x6 unleashed the bulls!!!
    stevex6_2_horoscope7.jpg
…and then got pancaked by the venerable Q!:wideyed::hurting:

    [Poll] #1 stevex6 vs #8 Cucumbor (round 2) CIT 2017

Or when our Championship was decided by only 3 votes in a battle of the titans! :nailbiting:

[Poll] IMPERATOR CHAMPIONSHIP! #3 Alegandron vs #5 zumbly - CIT 2017

Speaking of our champions I never waste an opportunity to re-post a good GIF so here are the winners from last year’s tournament!

Well, anyhoo, this year should be even better! I intended to host this tournament in March to coincide with March Madness (which would have made a lot more sense thematically) but I got a bit busy so we are going to do July Madness and make that a thing now…

Really, the only big change from last year (other than no x6 bulls :() is that in the first tournament we made all the coins that our collectors had in their collections fair game to play and this year we will be restricting the entries to coins that were acquired in 2017 or 2018. This is meant to be coins collected since the end of the last tournament but since it will be hard to figure from April 2017 we will just make any 2017 coins fair game.

    Okay… the specifics.

    Here is how to enter:
    1. Be in possession of an ancient or medieval coin… any coin!
    2. Send me a PM or post below to this thread saying you would like to enter. Once we have at least 16 players I will close the entry period, set up the bracket, and we will get started.
    3. Once we have our bracket set I will PM the participants asking for a photo of the coin you would like to enter for the first round. Please also include the following information.
      • Attribution information, with description, date range etc.
      • Price paid for the coin
      • A “short” description on what makes the coin extra cool!
    Here are the rules:
    • 1) 1 coin per round, per participant.
    • 2) Coins can be from any region, culture or time period before AD 1500.
    • 3) You must have acquired the coin you wish to play in either 2017 or 2018.
    • 4) I will make a separate thread with a poll for each head-to-head matchup. Members will each have 3 votes in the poll and will issue a vote for which coin comes out on top in each of the following categories.
      • Eye Appeal
      • Greatest Bargain!
      • Historical or Numismatic Interest
    • 5) Polls will close after 3 days (unless noted otherwise) for each thread. The participant with the highest cumulative number of votes will win the match and advance to the next round.
    • 6) Participants will be seeded alphabetically by CoinTalk username.
    • 7) Winners in their round can choose to submit a new coin each round or continue to submit the coin from the previous round.
    • 8) Be nice, it’s just a game meant for fun!
    • 9) Have fun!
The winner will be granted a glorious Triumph, be able to call themselves the Coin Imperator for the whole of the next year and…

    …elect a charity to which I will donate $50!

If you don’t have a charity in mind a coin related suggestion would be the ACCG or there may even be a way to donate to CT on your behalf?

So enter for bragging rights, just for fun, or to support a good cause! No matter who wins, everyone wins! I will post the bracket and update results to this thread once we get underway. Good luck and let’s have some fun.

Hmmm… Chinese coins will likely be at a natural disadvantage here, but sure, I’ll give it a try! Thoroughly enjoyed lurking in the threads last year, so if there are no objections, count me in!

If last year competitors are welcome I will gladly participate, as last year tournament was real fun and entertainment, thanks to @Curtisimo

But, should you have enough competitors (i.e. 16 or more) I will resign my inscription in order to have new people participating

What is the price limit on the coins this year?

I remember it started $100 then I think got raised last year.
