    Love the tournament!

I stopped casting votes in the 'value for money' category after the second round. Price is important when I buy a coin. But less so when I judge eye appeal & numismatic interest of coins that I do not own and am not interested in purchasing. So what if somebody got a great deal or went through a bidding war...

Very true. When there was originally a $100 cap on the tournament (which was apparently against CT rules) the value category was meant as a way to reward unusually good cherry picks. Without the cap I left it in thinking that it would be a good equalizer between high end and budget entries. As Doug pointed out a $1,000 coin should be 100X more interesting and beautiful than a $10 coin to win this category.

When you have two coins that are both great value and in the same price bracket it becomes less meaningful.

At the end of the tournament I will open this thread up for suggestions on what we can improve for next year's tournament.

Glad you're having fun Agricantus and welcome to the forum :)

Gold vs Electrum Match with the title of Imperator up for grabs!
    #3 @Alegandron vs #5 @zumbly

A battle between two of the coolest coins and coolest members you will find anywhere. Both deserve to win but only one will get to emerge victorious as the new Imperator!

I would've liked to have gotten in on the ground floor of this. Too late now, I suppose, but since the ancient portion of my small collection is even smaller, that's all for the best.

    Neat idea!

Thanks lordM. I have seen some of the ancient stunners in that eclectic box of twenty you have. I would love to see some of your coins in next year's competition :)

I would like to continue this contest annually and I want to make sure to keep it fun for the board and also capture the widest possible participation. To that end I would like to open this thread up for comments or suggestions on things you would like to see or not see in next years tournament. I will capture all the ideas I think will work and hopefully we will have an even more successful contest next year!

    Thanks

I am not making a suggestion, nor a critique. I am humbled that my coins were well received by everyone, and I thank everyone. I am making a gesture that since I gratefully won the Imperator position, that I will not participate in the next Imperator Tournament.

I draw upon a wonderful precedence that an Imperator performed in Republican Rome: Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix. Imperator Sulla's story is well known, and had always fascinated me. His adversary, Marius has an admirable history in Rome. However, I also enjoyed Sulla's conviction in HIS belief in Rome.

After Sulla had won, made his changes, and emplaced his reforms; he then proceeded to step down and RETIRE from his position. This was an incredible precedence considering the virtual absolute power he held in Rome.
