Hello, everyone. We have some special holiday fun lined up for you. Claire B., aka @Penny Luster, approached me a while back about doing a big giveaway for the holiday season, so here 'tis.

What we're going to do is have twelve separate drawings on different days throughout early December. The theme is similar to that old "Twelve Days of Christmas" song, only this is Coinmas! And instead of partridges and pear trees, Claire will be giving
    coins!

There will be one coin in the first day's drawing, two on the second day, three on the third day, and so on, until the twelfth day, when there will be a dozen coins in the drawing. After each day is up, we'll have a drawing, and then move on to the next day's prizes.

    To enter:

    1. Go to the most recent posts to see what the prize being offered for the current day is. If you want to enter to win that prize, just say "I want that!", and that will be your entry post.
(Edit: I've added a summary with links below, so that you may see the status of the rounds.)

    2. Claire would like you to also post something else "amusing and cheerful", of your choice. In her exact words:
A few of the lots (Days 1, 11, and 12) will be coming from my inventory, and will be shipped by me. Claire will be shipping the rest. But she swapped me some stuff for the coins I'll be shipping, so everything in this giveaway is entirely her donation. This is all her show- I am merely providing assistance with the logistics.

Entries from international members are welcome. If Claire needs extra funds to help with shipping outside the USA, and/or wants me to be an intermediary for that, I am more than happy to assist.

    Merry Coinmas, everyone! :)

    ~Claire B. (@Penny Luster)

    Let's begin, shall we?

    Lot #1.

On the first day of COINmas, @Penny Luster gave to thee...

    A "1780" Austrian Maria Theresa thaler restrike, .833 fine silver, .7517 oz. ASW, 41 mm, 28.06 g.

This is an official 20th century restrike from the Austrian mint, so it is not as old as the "1780" date suggests, but it does have the same silver content as an original, and it is a big, flashy, Brilliant Uncirculated example.

There is a full writeup in a previous discussion thread about this coin.

    Want it? :)

All you have to do to enter is say "I want that!", and then post something else amusing and cheerful, per Claire's directions:
After one day has elapsed, we will then have a drawing, and give this coin away, and then we'll move on to the second day of Coinmas, which will be a drawing for two coins!

Amusing anectdote: "Jingle Bells" was written for Thanksgiving, NOT Christmas. It was also the first song broadcast from space.

Disclaimer - I'm not sure if these are true facts. I found them on the internet. But they sure do sound amusing :)

    Thanks for the contest :)

Little know fact - there's a basketball court on the top floor of the US Supreme Court - and it's nickname? Of course, it's "the highest court in the land." ;)

An interesting 1981 proof octopus coin from Tuvalu. I really like how the octopus takes up the field of the coin...

@JCKTJK - do you want in on the giveaway? If so, don’t forget to say “I want that!”. ;)

(That’s how I will distinguish the actual entry posts from mere conversational posts later, when I do the drawing tomorrow.)

It would make a fine addition to my collection.

Anyway, here is my most recent numismatic purchase, although you've already seen it in another thread @lordmarcovan.

In Vegas, a blonde walks up to a Coke machine and puts in a coin.
Out pops a Coke. The blonde looks amazed and runs away to get some more coins.

She returns and starts feeding the machine madly, and of course the machine keeps popping out the drinks.

Another person walks up behind the blonde and watches her antics for a few minutes before stopping her and asking if someone else could have a go.

The blonde spins around and shouts in her face: "Can't you see I'm winning?"

There once was a girl from Nantucket,
Who had just one coin in her bucket,
    The sailor then said,
    If you'd like ten instead,
You'd better go find a bigger bucket.

Sorry, dumb but hopefully fun since I just made that up.

    Happy holidays to all!

I heard this quote many years ago, and it always made me chuckle:

"Coin collecting is the only hobby where you can spend all of your money, and still have money left over!"
