LordM & spirityoda Giveaway, November 2018

Deadline for entries: midnight Eastern US time, Friday, November 30, 2018.

This contest has now CLOSED. Winners announced in Post #114.

Hi, everybody, and welcome to the latest monthly giveaway!

    To enter:

    1. Please include the words "entry post" in your initial post to this thread. This enables me to sort out the eligible posts from the secondary commentary posts later. You may reply to this thread as many times as you like, but each member gets only one eligible entry post per month. If you put the phrase "entry post" into more than one reply, you will disqualify yourself for the month.

    2. In addition to the words "entry post", post something else that's fun, creative, amusing, or interesting. Anything you like. However, please note that your post must include something coin-related, though we do welcome general chitchat and pet pictures and whatever else. Just find some kind of numismatic tie-in for your post, is all.

    3. If your lucky number (the permalink number of your entry post) comes up in the drawing at the end of the month, you've won a prize. Drawings are done with the random.org True Random Number Generator.

    4. To see how this works and has played out before, look at some of the past monthly giveaways (I'll put an archive of those in Post #2).

    5. I will gladly ship prizes outside the USA (or reimburse donor partners for doing so), but if international shipping proves to be cost-prohibitive, I do reserve the right to substitute prizes (such as with an electronic PayPal gift, etc).

    6. If you are a minor, I'm delighted to have you play, but please make sure you have your parents' permission to enter this giveaway, since if you win, I will be required to ask for your mailing address, obviously.

This month there are (3) prize lots, so three winners will be drawn.

Each winner will receive twenty (20) coins from my unpicked "reserve stash" of World coins, which have been put into new Mylar 2x2 holders but not labeled, because they have not been researched at all by me. There is a good mix of countries and of both old and new coins.

Most will likely turn out to be common, but there IS some cherrypicking potential here, since I've looked none of this stuff up. I'll leave the fun of that to you, the three winners.

Hey, with these bulk lots, you never know...

    • At least half of the coins in each lot will be 50+ years old. (This is pre-Euro-era stuff, for the most part.)
    • Though this will be a semi-random grab, I will ensure you receive no duplicate types.
    • There will be at least one silver coin (or two small ones).
    • There will be one or more coins from the 1800s.
    • There will at least a few Brilliant Uncirculated or proof coins.
    • I'll be happy to help you ID any you have trouble with, if I can.
Edit: I will note that the silver in the prize lots was provided by @spirityoda, so I've now (belatedly) credited him in the title.

I added some scans of the final prize lots in Post #115.

I will have my assistant, our new rescue kitten Mr. Bojangles, (aka "Bo") pick you out something cool and fun! * :cat:

(* So you can blame him if you get a bunch of duds, haha)

(BTW, if you're curious, that turned out to be a 1929-F Weimar Germany reichspfennig in XF-AU condition that Bo picked up there. It might end up in one of the lots.)

Good luck to all contestants, and many thanks to my donor partners, past and present.

Due to the logistical difficulties of coordinating things after my hiatus, I did not bring any donor partners aboard this month. (You'll also note there were no September or October giveaways.)

I did have several folks offer goodies for future giveaeays back around August when I disappeared, but just had too much going on to properly respond. (Sorry 'bout that.) So thank you to those folks, and y'all shoot me another message if you want to talk about doing something in December or January. (But I encourage some of you to run some of your own contests and giveaways with those goodies if you have the time and inclination to do so!)

(There were a few others, but these were the ones that kind of settled into a regular monthly pattern.)

Psst! Hey, Yolo- see Rule 2. ;)

I don't require a lot of work in these giveaways (except for reading all that longwinded blather) but something more than just typing "entry post" is required.

Post a favorite coin. Your latest find. Tell a clean, non-political joke or a story. Post a picture. Show us your cat or dog or car or boat or self or mountain cabin. But tie it in with coins somehow, if remotely.

As short or as long as you like. Just more than "entry post". :)

I was going to post a coin with a turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving, but I didn't have one. So I'll post a coin from Turkey.

BTW, If I win the prize coins will be donated to the YNs at my local Coin Club.

I have seen one or two of those posted, over on the CU site. Wow.

Are they listed as patterns in the Judd reference? (I've never seen that.)

After winning the design contest the powers being didn't like the art deco design.
They made him change the winning design ....they also promised him 150 proofs to make up the souvenir cards which they did not deliver....he obtained the proofs needed and had a150 of these made and gave them to family and close friends.

A serious upgrade from my first example that I posted in the “Post your rarest coin” thread.
250th anniversary of the settlement of Providence, Rhode Island by Roger Williams.

Quite a stunner. Looks prooflike. Is it aluminum, or white metal? I know aluminum had a bit more prestige back then (when it was harder to produce) than it does now.

Thanks!! I’ve been on the hunt for some time. I’ve bid on a couple of higher grade examples, but they sold way over my budget. My pic is terrible, but I think there are just too many hairlines to get the PL designation, but it’s certainly close! 463FE6E0-B8FD-454D-AAB3-8CAA73B94AA9.jpeg

This is listed as an R6, HK-605 is the same design in bronze, but I have yet to even see one come up for sale.

AU58 is often the best "bang for yer buck" grade. I find MS62 coins to be a good value sometimes, too.
