Ah bummer man...I was going to go in but it was locked and then ended before I noticed it was back open.

Well, good luck to the players, I'm looking forward to how it pans out.

Haha unfortunately trying to put a dollar limit on the submissions got this tournament temporarily shut down by the mods.

We might have to have value of a snack or lunch coin tournament.

Hi panzerman. I sent you a PM earlier. If you send me the photo of your first round coin along with all the info of the type that the others provided in reply to the PM I'll post your match up in the next few days.

I also haven't heard back from @dadams or @ValiantKnight yet. Did you guys get my PM?

As far as price you can send my what you paid and when. The amount doesn't have to be exact just a ballpark so that folks can have enough info to vote on the value for money category

    Actually no message yet....
I noticed that in last three days, there were no messages from forum, I usually get 15+ everyday.

Oh man strange. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you. Can you try to start a private message with that info with me and I'll see if I get it?

The second heat of the first round is up and running folks! A couple of great match-ups that should be fun and interesting.

    #1 stevex6 vs #16 dadams

It's silver vs bronze in this imperial Roman smack-down. I can't wait to see what happens with this one.

    #2 Bing vs #15 gsimonel

Two different strategies on display here. Lots of history and good value all around.

Two more great match-ups will be posted around this time tomorrow. Thanks for voting everyone!

    Hello everyone,

We have a slight update to the bracket. ValiantKnight has some academic obligations that are going to prevent him from having the time to play (good luck with your term project my friend!)

Fortunately for us @David Atherton has agree to fill in as the #6 seed. Should be a fun match up! The updated bracket is below.

This has proven to be a really cool friendly competition so far. Thanks and kudos, @Curtisimo!

I'm looking forward to the next match-ups you post and can see the successive rounds getting even more interesting. Regardless of who wins, I think this will be one of the most fun series of threads on the board and I'm glad to be participating.

I'm following along and voting but with reluctance. We tell certain members that "likes" don't matter and that they should judge the coin without depending on what others say... and now we are purposefully pitting coins against one another and asking everyone to pick the "best" ones? Mixed messages.

(yeah yeah... boo hiss for Debbie Downer ;))

UH, OH!!! The gloves are off;)

I certainly can appreciate what TIF posted...I hope we all keep in mind that this is all for fun and what only really matters is that we all LOVE our coins regardless---and a donation to charity can't be a bad thing.

I was trying to write something similar to this @Mikey Zee, but your word is easier than mine and you said it perfectly : Ditto !!

I have to say I think the context is quite different. For me the tournament is about more than just winning likes. It (hopefully!) generates camaraderie amongst participants through friendly competition, and provides for yet another opportunity to highlight the cool factor of the coins being entered. I also think that having voters choose which coin to give their vote to in each of the three categories may see them spending a little more time ruminating on those those aspects than they otherwise might have... certainly for me it has.

Participants may also enjoy the gamesmanship involved when strategizing which of their coins to pit against what coin they think a specific opponent's collection may throw up. I'm really quite thrilled just thinking about the various match-ups that have been set out and what coins are going to be in play.

At the end of the day, even as I make my votes and note with great interest how everyone else has voted, I'll love my own coins no less and probably love all the others that have been submitted more. I'm really rooting for everyone here... hmmm, except perhaps whomever I'm up against! :D

That makes sense, Z. I guess my bias against competitions is showing :D
