I have noticed that while CT has a wonderfully vibrant and active Ancient Coins community, it seems the World Coins forum is pretty sleepy by comparison. This was discussed in a recent thread.

Now, since World Coins are the category that covers the widest swath of numismatics, this is backwards! We need more action in World Coins!

So here's what I propose to do.

    I will have another giveaway.

To enter, you will need to do two things:

    1. Post a new thread of your own in this forum about a World Coin or coins, with at least one picture in it. This can be one of your coins, or a coin type you like, or a request for a coin ID, whatever. It can be rare or common, pretty or ugly... anything from anywhere.
    2. Post a link to your new thread here.
At the end of the month (on or shortly after July 1st, 2017), I will use a random number generator to select from all the entries posted here. If you post multiple discussion threads and link them up in separate posts here, you'll get multiple chances in the drawing (limit 3 chances per member).

The winner will receive this vey attractive silver 1964 Greek 30-drachmai piece which I myself won in one of @H8_modern's giveaways.

Two other winners will receive other (as-yet undetermined) World coin prizes.

Let's see some more World Coins and discussion about 'em!

(Poor prize pictures taken on antique iPhone 3.)

The follow the leader thread is VERY active. That probably makes up for all the other slower threads.

I realized yesterday.... one of the reasons the ancient forum has more posts is because it is a tighter focus. The two major divisions are Greek and Roman, the majority collect one or both, and they have a general understanding of things outside their specialty. A lot of ancient collectors also collect by theme. Thus, the ancient guys can comment on other's posts, even if they don't have exactly the same thing. They all speak roughly the same language.

World coins are quite a bit different - there are so many widely different areas covered. I could post a coin from Morocco, and someone else could collect Japanese or Indian coinage. These have absolutely no relation, no common history, no common themes, no common language. I don't know anything about Indian coins, so I can't really comment or contribute. They don't know anything about French Colonial coinage, so they see a pretty piece of metal but don't know anything about it. It makes it difficult unless I post a popular piece that a lot of people know about, or I find that one other guy that collects Moroccan coinage.

I see what you mean, though at first blush I would've thought, "Hey, World Coins are such a vast category that surely that would mean more discussions about them". I did not take people's specializations into account, since I tend to be a numismatic "jack of all trades". Good point.
