I just discovered that the catalogue for the 2nd "Ancient & Medieval Coins Canada" auction is now online on biddr! Since I know that many forum members have been very much looking forward to this auction, I thought it a good idea to post this here. AMCC 2 includes many fantastic coins, and @Severus Alexander has once more done a marvellous job with great photography and a large number of fascinating and informative small write-ups on single coins in the catalogue. It's definitely worth having a look. We'll have to wait until Nov. 9 for the auction, but in the meantime this is a good opportunity to show your wins from AMCC 1! Here are some of mine: Alexander III "the Great," Kingdom of Macedonia, AR tetradrachm, 325–323 BC, Amphipolis mint (under Antipater). Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin. Rev: ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, rooster standing left. 26mm, 17.17g. Ref: Price 79; Troxell 1997, issue E3. Obv: ΠΟΣ[ΕΙ] (retrograde); Poseidon walking r., wielding trident, chlamys draped over both arms. Rev: ΠΟΣ[ΕΙ] (retrograde); bull standing l. 19.2mm, 7.83g. Ref: SNG ANS 651–653; HN Italy 1114. Ex AMCC 1, lot 4; ex Zumbly collection. Hadrian, Roman Empire, AE as, 125–128 AD, Rome mint. Obv: HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS; bust of Hadrian, laureate, r. Rev: COS III; Salus, draped, standing r., feeding snake out of patera; in fields flanking, SC. 26mm, 10.2g. Ref: RIC II Hadrian, 669c. Ex AMCC 1, lot 180; ex Justin Lee collection. (Hopefully this post does not violate any forum rules. I am not paid or employed by AMCC.)
Wow, thanks for the kinds words @Orielensis! Here's some info that may be helpful to others: 1 USD = 1.31 CAD 1 EUR = 1.47 CAD In other words, as long as you have some of this here stuff you're all good! Hmm, though there's also: 1 AUD = 0.90 CAD 1 SGD = 0.96 CAD (I know you sometimes feel left out, @zumbly... ) Here's a favourite ex AMCC coin: CARIA: Maussolos (Satrap), 377-352 BCE, AR drachm - ex @Justin Lee

I cannot WAIT for your next auction!!! I will definitely have plenty of this CASH on hand to pay you!!!
Speaking of roaches, I'm thinkin' there may be a few folks on here interested in an ex @Sallent roach, yes?
I'm excited to participate! This second auction is much bigger, too! Here are a couple I acquired in AMCC 1: I've never posted this one on CT because I thought y'all were getting sick of my Faustina I posts! If it looks familiar, it's ex- @Justin Lee ! Faustina I, AD 138-141. Roman Æ as, 10.35 g, 26.4 mm, 11 h. Rome, AD 139-141. Obv: FAVSTINA AVG ANTONINI AVG PII P P, Bust of Faustina I, draped, right. A first pass through AMCC2 provided many targets. Looking forward to the closing! My AMCC1 haul, some of which I have not photographed (auction house images shown below): GAUL, Massalia c. 350-150 BCE AR obol; 0.59 gm, 10mm Obv: youthful male head left (Apollo?) Rev: wheel with four spokes; M A within two quarters Ref: Depeyrot, Hellénistiques, Type 18; SNG Leipzig 13. AMCC Auction 1, lot 1, 1 December 2018 https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1-1-1-1-1-won.327885/ MACEDON, Stobi. Caracalla (198-217) AE 23.6 mm, 5.8 gm Obv: M AVR ANTONINV AG; laureate and cuirassed bust right Rev: MV-N-I-CIP STOBE; Hades in galloping quadriga right, carrying off struggling Persephone Ref: AMNG III 12 var. (bust seen from front); Varbanov 4052 (R5, same dies) Ex Zumbly Others: Magnesia ad Maeandrum AE8mm. The off center obverse is unfortunate but the reverse is well centered and interesting. The descriptions say it is a cuirass but it looks more like a torso to me. Cuirasses don't go that far out over the shoulders and they don't have necks! Compare to the few others in ACsearch. Not the nicest, not the worst, but at $27 all-in, a good price. Apparently this is an ex-Zumbly but the auction attribution did not say so. Themistokles hemiobol, the subject of an outstanding writeup and entry in the 2018 Coin Imperator contest. I had some competition for this and am surprised it didn't sell for more! Ex Severus Alexander. A tasty group lot. I feel like I absolutely stole these! The all-in cost in USD is ~$5 per coin . My first month of ancient coin collecting, I paid $12 a piece for a couple of "uncleaned" (and unimaged) Greek coins from Dirty Old Coins. Both were complete slugs, with virtually no dirt or encrustations to "clean" at all. $5 a piece for Greek coins which have interesting devices is astonishing! Even if I get tired of them, they will make wonderful gifts for newcomers. (This group was also an unadvertised Zumbly consignment-- he told me after I won). A bronze from the late period of the Bosporan kingdom. The artwork is downright comical. I have a couple of earlier Bosporan issues so this will complement them. This one was purely a whim. I just liked it. The portrait looks as much like Pescinnius Niger as it does ol' Seppie (It's Septimius Severus), so that caught my attention. Plus I have no Cappadocian Mt. Argaeus drachms. Next is a wonderful tet and I'm delighted to have it. The centering, strike, fabric, and style are all quite good for a later tetradrachm of Roman Egypt (this is Maximian; Herakles reverse). Ex Justin Lee . I had a few targets among the offerings from @jamesicus and had my heart set on a Diocletian abdication issue. I won this and lost the subsequent lot after a lively round of bidding. Selge AE 13mm. Because Shrek . This one might be amenable to some judicious cleaning. This one is just plain funny . Sure, you can buy these Nutella tokens on eBay but this one is nice and it wasn't any more expensive than eBay examples.
It's super exciting! AMCC1 was my first time participating in an official coin auction and is by far a most easy experience, so if you haven't done so before, it's a great one to get one under your belt! And Sev is great to work with! Here are the few that I added to (rather than parted with) my collection in December... Obviously had to have an ex @jamesicus!! LONDON TETRARCHIC Galerius as Caesar, Ruled 293-305 AD AE follis, Struck 296-303 AD, London Mint Obverse: MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES, Laureate and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: GENIO POPV–LI ROMANI, Genius standing, facing left, head surmounted by a modius, naked except for chlamys over left shoulder, holding patera in right hand and cornucopia in left arm; no exergue.. References: RIC VI 15 (London); CT (Cloke & Toone) 2.01.015. Cloke & Toone combine RIC 15 and 21 into one catalogue number due to the presence of continuous variation in bust size; there are not really two distinct bust types as RIC would have it. This falls clearly within the “coarse” style of C&T 2.01. Size: 27.6mm, 10.08g Ex: James Pickering Romano-Britannic Collection, acquired from Victor Clark, ex Freeman and Sear. Can't go wrong with an ex Sev!! Augustus, Ruled 27 BC-14 AD AR Denarius, Struck 19-18 AD, Uncertain mint in Spain, possibly Colonia Caesaraugusta. Obverse: CAESAR AVGVSTVS, bare head right. Reverse: OB CIVIS / [SERVATOS], oak wreath with ties upward. References: RIC I 40a Size: 17mm, 3.68g Ex: Ancient and Medieval Coins Canada, Auction 1, Lot #166 (12/1/2018) Ex: CT Member @Severus Alexander Notes: Banker’s mark (“F”) in left field of obverse, traces of gilding and mount (12 o’clock on obverse). This one wasn't planned, but at the price I couldn't pass on it... A nice unexpected snack! Vespasian, Ruled 69-79 AD AR Denarius, Struck in 76 AD, Rome mint Obverse: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right. Reverse: COS VII across field, Eagle with wings spread, standing front on low garlanded base, head left, holding thunderbolt in claws. References: RIC II 847 Size: 19.4mm, 3.07g
Looking forward for your auction @Severus Alexander . Very attractive listing. I’m just so nostalgic of the times when Canadian an US dollar was at par......
Really excited for this one! I've also got a few of my coins offered. I had way too many Sol coins. Here's a nice one ex. Sev from AMCC 1:
I recently made a big coin purchase, but I’ll see if I can still spare a few bucks for a coin or two from AMCC.
Sweet! I was honoured to participate in the first AMCC and made some major scores! It was incredible! I'm still mind blown when thinking about it. Thanks again to @Severus Alexander, @Justin Lee and the very generous gifter! I won't be able to participate this time around, but I'll definitely be grabbing some popcorn and enjoying the show! All the best! Erin
Hopefully on October 21st. we will get a Conservative PM and our Canadian Peso (Dollar) may gain in value We are getting killed right now with the horrible exchange rate: $1.70=UK Pound $1.35=US $ $1.60-EURO John
