Ok, I have one. I'll let this one ride for a couple of days. It appears to be a common 1921 Morgan in an NGC fatty 3.0 holder, graded MS-64. It sold at auction on Great Collections. So what was the total it sold for, including the buyers fees? PCGS Guide for an MS-64 is $60.00 Let's round up some of the usual suspects: @Beefer518, @baseball21, @Mainebill, @Burton Strauss III, @GoldBug999, @KSorbo, @Pickin and Grinin, @Paddy54, @heavycam.monstervam, @Dave Waterstraat, @Cascade.
Somebody thought it was the 2nd string holy grail of NGC. The black holders are the true grail. There are two versions of the gold foil printed holders, 2.1 and 2.2 although 2.2 came first. On 2.2 the foil stamp is on the inside of the holder on 2.1 it's on the outside. A shadow is the usual giveaway. But with the flat light GC uses, no shadow. It's much harder to see, bit the letter tops are rounded ... hence on the outside. If two people thought this was an unattributed 2.2...
It's actually 2.0 and 2.1 with the 2.1 coming before the 2.0. It was assigned 2.1 because it was not discovered until after the 2.0 designation was given out. Both the 2.0 and 2.1 are very easy to spot as the front of the holder has an all white label. Then the Generation 3.0 came out, which introduced the bordered label with the gold embossed logo on the back.
