@coin_nut - alas, your nifty scalloped-edge Cyprus piastre is just a bit too late, since @Muzyck had switched us to 1901 or Colombia (as a self-correction after himself being a tad late with that Hong Kong post ).

Not to worry, though. I can fix this.

@Muzyck posts the 1901 Colombia Lazareto piece...

Playing from his 1901 date, I now insert a 1901 Cyprus 9-piastre piece...

Playing from my Cyprus, we now repost your Cyprus coin...

    [IMG][IMG]

... and presto! We're back on track.

Next play is Cyprus or 1934.

Good year. 1944 is my mother's birthyear.

Mom was, like her offspring, (and Bruce Springsteen) "Born in the USA", so ...

    Love those big 2 1/2 gulden coins. All these 1933s had the 'grof haar', I think. 1933 NE 2 1-1 g obv.JPG 1933 NE 2 1-2 g rev.JPG

I'll do an 1854 (Utrecht) Netherlands East Indies 1/10 gulden.

@Youngcoin - you should be seeing this one in your mailbox any moment now. Enjoy! I was happy to set your oldest date for a non-ancient back a little. :)

This means some sort of Netherlands or 1854 to the next player, of course.

Well, now it appears we've come full circle in the last day or so, and I can now legally post this one that I technically disqualified myself with in Post #3210 yesterday.

    So 1793 or Netherlands, next.

(This coin, as you might have guessed, was once part of my Holey Coin Vest collection.)

Those are some of the trippiest designs I've seen. Small wonder, with marijuana being legal in the Netherlands for so long! Haha. :cigar:;)

I think they're ugly, but definitely cool-ugly in an interesting sort of way, which is better than plain old ugly-ugly, if you know what I mean.

I had seen that Beatrix portrait like that before, but never the four heads seemingly chipped out of stone by a prehistoric flint-knapper. That is bizarre, and so hideous it's almost pretty.

I find myself almost liking it, in a weird sort of way.

Can't help but wonder how controversial some of these ultra-modern, surreal designs were when they were first introduced. I also wonder what it would look like if these coins had actually circulated any, and worn down to VG... G... even AG... what would they look like then?
