In the OP of this thread last December, I gushed about how the original concept thread I created on Collectors Universe in 2006 had received over 4,000 replies in the subsequent decade.

This spinoff version here just crossed the 3,200 milestone last night after a mere ten months instead of ten years.

So perhaps the CT World Coins forum is not quite so sleepy after all.

So, German States or 1784 to me, then.

1687 German States (Hildesheim) 24 mariengroschen (2/3 thaler), old jewelry hole

From my old Holey Coin Vest collection. This was a kind gift from a Collectors Universe member. ("Udo", if I remember correctly.) Though not a full thaler, it was a nice big coin. I love that big old thaler-ish silver from the 16th and 17th centuries!

So the German States ball is still in play next, if 1687 is too early for you.

Here is another German States Aachen XII heller, plus a 1678 (same as 1687 if you have a bit of dyslexia...) from next door in West Frisiae 1760 Aachen XII h obv-2.JPG 1760 Aachen XII h rev-2.JPG 1678 WF 6 s obv.JPG 1678 WF 6 s rev.JPG

Your most recent piece would make it Netherlands or 1687, but sorry, dyslexic dates don't play, and that does not follow your 1760 Aachen (German States) piece. (Cool coin, though. Both of 'em.)

I initially went back to my old Holey Coin Vest and found a coin I was about to play from your Dutch 6-stuiver... [IMG]

But since German States or 1760 would be the correct play, here is one that is almost certainly a rerun from me. (I do have some other German States stuff in the Holey Coin Vest pictures, but they're on Photobucket, which is in Insane-Ad-Assault mode right now and practically inaccessible due to the incessant popups.)

This will make it German States or 1866 to the next player.

(This might be the only time I can remember where the usually-awful NGC slab images actually did the coin more justice than other photos of it. Surprisingly, they captured the prooflike qualities of this sweet little supergem.)

(Same coin below, thereby proving my point about the usually pitiful quality of NGC's slab images. The colors in the hologram "pop", but not so much the ones on the coin.)

    Actually, yes. :)

That's Cyprus, below, even if it looks more like "YPRU" on the coin.

(Authentic coins from Ypru are quite rare. Perhaps you've heard of the Battle of Ypres in WW1. Well, Ypru is up the road from there, but their mint got blown up.)
