This is one of the more mindless and time-wasting threads here--doesn't the OP have anything better to do than play "catch the shill?" Last week, he was after misleading advertising on E-bay. BORING!!

You can buy pet rocks on FeeBay. I can't see how his collecting them would end up any different than coins. There's probably even a pet rock cartel that would make sure he couldn't get one for a reasonable price...

 

Probably so, but I don't think there are any Pet Rock collectors here. Let the cartel worry about it.

I wouldn't even place a single bid if a seller had a bunch of consecutive notes and listed them in individual auctions. Consecutive notes represent a "Lot", and they should be sold as such. The seller knows that the consecutive serial numbers are desirable, and they are creating a profit maximizing/scamming type situation by selling them individually. It would be like someone selling a pair of shoes one shoe at a time. After you buy the first shoe, they kinda have you by the jewels for the second one.

Shill bidding is about impossible to prove for one fact. Some collectors get it in their head one seller is best and only buy from them. Don't believe me? I have seen entire collections of only Littleton coins, only HSN coins, only coins from certain dealers, etc. It happens. What if this "shill" bidder simply thought this seller was the best?

Dang, "How to deal with shill bidders"? Don't bid. Not very hard. I seriously have 50 different sellers who would love to sell to me, there is not a shortage of things to buy, there is always a shortage of cash. Move on and accept the fact you will never know why someone outbid you on the lots, just that they did. Fact of life you might as well get used to, no sense getting PO'ed about it on Ebay, in a live auction, or anywhere else. Want something? Bid higher than the other person or live without it.

 

Detecto, if it was shill bidding, just watch the sellers auctions for the next few weeks and they will be relisting them.
