Got this fresh from the mint in May. You can clearly see they have gotten even more cloudy. I swear I am storing them in a cool dry place! Quality control at the mint in the past decade is depressing. :\
There may be an answer here... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/proof-coins-with-haze-cloudiness.278956/ Or here... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/hazy-bullion-affect-resale.270590/#post-2277812 Perhaps your environment isn't as dry as you think.
It looks like whatever they are using to clean the planchets is not working. Since that’s a 2021 dated coin, it must have turned almost at the time the coin was dried out.
There are thousands different reasons for haze. Haze is nothing more than the beginning stages of toning - that's all it is. And it can be caused by almost anything.
Disregard...my mistake (I had posted something and then changed my mind but couldn't delete it, only edit.)

From our mint, no! They wouldn't do that. If you believe that, I have some ocean front property for sale in Boise...
Well unfortunately I'm not interested in cleaning coins or removing them from the package. I may just sell these cheap and buy a new set that I can examine first. I don't think I will EVER buy directly from the mint again. I have bought 2009, 2020, and 2021 from them. All stored in the same place and my 2009 is still perfect! 2020 and 2021 are problematic. I can't understand why they would send these out looking like this to customers or if I'm just having really bad luck with them.
If you bought them as a long term investment, and aren't happy with them, I'd return them and let them know.
I stopped buying from the mint a long time ago. Most often, you can guy the coins cheaper down the road and get to look at them before you do. I will admit there are a couple exceptions to this statement. I have purchased a couple sets that I suspected would rise in value and those have worked out...but that is rare. Those being the 2011 ASE anniversary set and the 2014 JFK silver anniversary set. Of course, both of those had huge short term price surges before settling down.
Haha Indeed. I am not in this hobby for investment sake anyway that's why I'm buying proof sets LOL I just find these very unappealing to look at.
This is very good advice. Will do that from now on. Here's another curious proof set I have (1962), where the dime and cent are exposed to each other from the cellophane de-laminating itself between compartments. Notice the Cent is fine with a slightly off tone, but the silver dime is not very happy.
I was only joking about cleaning. Most members know I dislike coin cleaning as much as burning my hand on a hot stove.
