Yes, I remember when he said that, we were all so proud of him for speaking some German. The joke was that a "Berliner" was a type of pastry or donut in the local lingo.

Change theme, based on the prior post.

    Let's do "found" coins again,
be they detector finds, shipwreck treasure, archaeological hoard pieces, or even circulation finds.

Urban legend alert. ;) That stuff, some kind of jelly filled donut, is a Berliner Pfannkuchen (Berlin Pancake). Elsewhere in the country we call such a thing a Berliner while a Pfannkuchen is something different. But in Berlin, where JFK said those words, they call these donut-style things Pfannkuchen. So he, or whoever wrote those words, got it right.

Sorry for the excursion, but when it comes to sweet food ... :D

This was one of my first finds detecting. I was detecting an alleyway, between the Highschool my parents went to and some houses,
It was very rocky, so I don't feel that I did all the damage, being a rookie and all. IMG_0001.JPG IMG_0002.JPG It's about the size of an Ike dollar.

My last venture detecting yielded all this mostly Geo III stuff.

@paddyman98 the theme is coins found or dug from the ground.

Found this back on the playground while playing a game during recess. I must have been third or fourth grade. I got knocked to the ground while playing some type of game and this was sitting right in front of my face. A big find for a budding young coin collector.

Love your dig clusters like this, and as always, I'm impressed not only by the number of coins you find, but also the number of larger coins and medals, and the array of artifacts.

Cool find! Very interesting. I had to look up similar pieces since I had never seen one of these. The heavy wear is also oddly appealing, somehow. That must've been somebody's lucky pocket piece.
