This thread will be the first of 13 Jefferson Nickel GTG threads that I will post over the next three days. I will try to provide links to the successive threads so that everyone who responds to this thread will be notified. Each thread will start with the words "Baker's Dozen" as well so they can easily be found using the search function.

Please GTG of the 1942-P Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, Full Steps or not, and the + designation.

I'm going MS65 on this one, no FS. I think you lose the FS under the third pillar. I would call this 5-5-4-5.

Overall it's a really clean coin and it looks nice...not much in the way of hits. But something is going on next to Trust on the obverse and it is very distracting to the eye appeal and IMHO limits the grade to a 65. If it wasn't for that, I would say 66 all day long.

I'm at 65 and would give it FS. Although it looks like it's in an NGC holder, so maybe not. It's hard to tell what that is next to the T in trust, but I don't think it warrants a "damaged" label. I do think it keeps it from 66. It might actually make 67 without that mark. Really great luster on this one.

66 no FS. Agree that the steps appear to be bridged under column 3.

The mark next to trust looks like a strike through or a lamination that is peeling but still connected at the south end. I think if it was PMD you would not have sent this in for grading. I don’t think strike through or lamination is penalized in the grade which is why I went with 66.

I voted MS67 FS, but it’s not FS in NGC. Expecting a crack and cross to PCGS.

I went with 67 (no FS) as I only really saw a couple minor hits on the obverse (was on the fence about giving it a 66+) and I felt the white prongs meant it was an NGC slab (so they'd be tougher on the FS than PCGS, in my experience.)

MS 67 not fs ...very clean and lustrous...steps have breaks which prevent the designation
