Real estate's at all-time lows? Really?

My family bought a house back in '63 for a little more than $6000 that was in a quiet neighborhood close to schools and shopping. Today, $6000 wouldn't even pay for the back yard, even though the house and the yard have both gone into decline since we sold it, and the house is no longer close to shopping or schools.

Usually the best time to buy any commodity is when no one expects prices to pick up.
