Sounds great, but I am not always at home, and am just one man with a wife and young kids. I am not going to say no to a home invader if its a choice between my son or my coins. Its easy to say you are Rambo, but I have been in combat. I know 4 scared kids could easily overpower me in the dark of the night, so I made the decision to put the valuables out of reach of any burglar in my home.

What kind of relationship do you have with your wife...? Mr. & Mrs. Smith? ;-)

Depends on if someone knows you have precious metals stashed somewhere in your house and how much time they have to find it...

Back when I didn't have much precious metals, or a safe, or a safe deposit box, I used to keep some silver and gold in a box that was hidden in the bottom of a large ammo can that was full of rusty old tire chains. I can't think a burglar would ever think to look in there, or would want to steal them. Best hiding place ever. ;)

The safe, a "C" rated safe nonetheless, is in something that looks immovable (without significant planning and equipment), and is pleasing to the eye (remember, the wife had to approve of this antique being in our home). Upon inspection, it does not appear modified in any way.

My wife knows I have coins. There are some in my office, a few books on the mantle. Nothing like Mr and Mrs Smith. I am sure her purse collection has significant value by now.

Doesn't matter whether anyone knows a safe is in your house or not. Once your house and contents are seized then you've lost everything in your house, including items hidden in the walls, under the floorboards, in your mattress or buried in the yard.

I am shocked to think that if I went through all the trouble of making a custom hidden safe that you think I would just leave it to be confiscated in the event I was the subject of a search and/or seizure. I wish I could understand the thought process you went through to come to that conclusion.

(Your Internal Monologue) - "OldGoldGuy has some kind of fancy safe that he designed, installed and utilizes in his home, but, in the event he was going to have his property seized, he is just going to leave it there to be taken - yep, that sounds like what he would do"

If my palm hit my forehead any harder it would have come out the back of my skull.

Where are you going to put the property - in a newly rented Safe Deposit Box?

So again, I am just trying to clarify what you are saying sir. What is sounds like to me is, "If I have a hidden safe I can conceal assets if I have a problem". Sorry, but to me this simply sounds like premeditated felony fraud. If the intent is to intentionally hide assets from a legal seizure, then this is simply fraud. Now, if you believe the zombie apocalypse is coming, or the US is going to go around illegally seizing PM to pay our debt, (even though all of the gold in the world would not put much of a dent in our debt), then maybe. But to say its protection from search and seizure is simply advocating a premeditated felony. Many people wear special pajamas because of such fraud.
