I voted Other for the simple reason that diversity is the key. Concentrate on one thing and you risk a lot of if that one thing drops.

You need some silver and some gold (platinum and palladium are questionable because of their popularity); you need some plain bullion, both national bullion pieces and generic bullion; you need some coins (especially for gold) as well as bullion.

Everyone must decide for themselves the ratios involved. But in my opinion none of them should be zero.

you don't "need" bullion at all, but i do like to diversify. also balance a little collectibilty and numismatic into it

Back when I reeeeeeeeeeeally needed a car, I test drove an AMC Gremlin that someone had put a V8 engine in. I pulled out of the dealership quicker than I intended and noticed another car coming up on me. I hit the gas and it was like being in a rocket that was fishtailing. Scary.

I don't understand any of your "diversification" logic. All silver and gold coins and bullion can be melted back down to their constituent parts. There's absolutely no reason to have variety if all you are concerned about is investment in bullion.

Well, silver and gold are not the same and do not move in sync so diversifying between the two makes sense. As for diversifying within each, not all forms are equally popular at all times. Unless you are selling in bulk to a dealer then you need the ability to sell what is popular at the time, both for ease and profit. For example, junk silver tend to go up more if people are getting scared. You may not be scared, but others are and are willing to pay more so why not diversify to take advantage. At other times ASEs may be the most popular.

Funny, in my state we have what is called the "Pinto test". If you can drive a Pinto through it then it is considered a road and has passed the Pinto test. ;)

I think in Queens if you can drive 15 feet without side swiping something or something falling off the car, it's a street.
