Sure, the housing market (land in general) used to be viewed as a safe haven, but to me (hindsight is 20/20) that viewpoint is fundamentally flawed, because houses cost a lot of money, and in times of difficulty nobody can afford them so supply/demand will cause prices to go way down regardless of an inflationary or deflationary environment.
