I need three more coins to complete a gold type set that starts with the Classic Heads and runs through the St. Gaudens design. To complete the set I need a no motto Liberty Head Eagle, a Twenty D. Double Eagle, and a St Gaudens Double Eagle with motto.
But if you KNOW or THINK that gold is a better investment or you just like it...why not pay up more infrequently for the better asset class ? Don't let price influence your decision.
The Liberty Head Eagle will probably be an EF or XF. The Double Eagles will most likely be AU or low MS coins.
A premium hand selected $5 Canada gold from the bank of Canada in original mint packaging release 291 issued and likely quite a few were graded. I’ve look a fair amount and haven’t even seen on for sale
Some times all you can do is be patient I have that problem with select date Krugerrands many years are next to impossible to obtain.
I really have my sights set on a type 1 and then a type 2 double eagle. They are not cheap so I will have to go with a relatively common date in the EF40 to AU55 area.
$10 Indian no motto has been my favorite US gold coin for many years. Some day I will own one. Second is the pan pac $1.
I'd like a $10 Indian as well along with a 1 oz gold buffalo but I'm hating the premiums on both. There's a coin show coming up in Sac in mid Feb, maybe then, we'll see!
I'm more into the old stuff - I like it because it's fun and the downside is limited since part of the "value" is in the gold, i.e., it's not entirely collector value. That said, Saints and Indians are lovely. I have a few that I bought when gold was $400 less an ounce.
