Maybe a Whole Foods vs. Ralph's thing? I got curious and pulled up the Ralph's weekly flyer for West Pasadena. I was surprised; your prices are pretty similar to ours. Then again, I shop sales.

Check. I don't gather roadkill for food, but beyond that I generally don't ask questions.

Yeah, I am not sure where Jeff is getting them for under $2 but he should go into business and resell to other parts of the country it appears.

I'm guessing Harris-Teeter is selling them at that price (in bulk packs, 4-5 pounds) as a loss leader. They also have milk for $1.99 a gallon, where Wal-Mart and others are well above $3. H-T in general is about 20% more expensive than other grocers for the same items, so like I said, this is probably to draw people in.

But Aldi also has them for under $2 a pound. Not organic, obviously.

For a while, H-T was sending out coupons good for a week that would give you $10 off $50, and also putting $20 off $100 coupons in the paper -- and they STACKED, although they probably weren't supposed to. I stocked up on all kinds of things at 30% off.

I wouldn't be too quick to sell. Right now, if you compare the dollar to inflation the US dollar has lost a lot of value. I would hang on to my gold and silver just in case the dollar really tanks. Don't lesson to the idiots in Washington DC claiming inflation is only at 7%. That's BS. Go to the store and look at the cost of meat. In my area meat has jumped over 25% in price in 6 months. Look at gas and fuel oil at a 40% increase. Have you noticed how the manufactures of some food products have reduced the amount they put in the same size box? Wood products go into Home Depot and look at the price of plywood. Some have doubled or tripled or more in price. A friend just bought a 12-foot 2 x 4 for $20.00. Personally, I would hold on to your gold and silver because if the economy keeps going the way it is we may be going to the store with a stack of money just to buy a loaf of bread. Nice. I admit while I try to be "diligent" on shopping sales prices, my wife doesn't seem to be. Since she buys most groceries, I am as affected as most people are by the price increases. If it were just me, I would still be cheap buying chili dog buns, dogs, and chili at Aldi like I did in college. My dad told me long ago its not the cost of living that is so expensive, its the cost of loving. :(

More fun things to think about. Heat your house with worthless paper money. German Hard Times 3.jpg

I just remember hearing a lot of the same forecasts in 2011 when gold rose through $1400, $1500, $1600, $1700, $1800...

Hey, she loves you enough to want to keep you around, if she's buying you good stuff instead of chili dogs. ;)

I remember buying boneless chicken on sale for $1 a pack and feeding the tigers.
Wish I could find that picture of me sticking it up to the bars with 2 fingers and taking a count when I let go.
Feed them something in a can and if you didn't hold it at the right angle they would put a paw thru the bar and help you.
    Fun times.

Pre-1933 US gold coinage melts at just under 100x face value.

I'll gladly pay ONE THOUSAND TIMES face value* for a coin like the one pictured.

    * US$7.50 at current conversion rate 0.0075 rubles per dollar

    would you believe 10000x FV?

    (didn't think so)

I don't disagree, but I think gold has been BASING for years in the $1,800 - $2,000 range.

If/when gold moves it's gonna move in rapid fashion...not as fast as nickel, but a similar move in a few weeks or months.
