what recent coins do you think will have high numismatic value in the future?

The Queen, during her Diamond Jubilee celebration this past week (60 years on the throne) says she isn't going anywhere. There had been a rumor she was going to announce that she was stepping down to Charles could take over but looks like just a rumor. So looks as if the she will be on the coins for a while longer.

I think however, if I remember correctly that at least one of the commonwealth countries has decided that after she is gone, they will no longer put the monarch on their coins and currency. I think that might have been Australia. Might be wrong on that though.

I can go along with this to a degree. However the Chinese state sponsored TV has been telling citizens there to buy gold since 2009 if I recall correctly, so that isn't entirely exclusive to the higher mintage years. I am also unclear as to whether the Pan Asian Gold Exchange will be having their physical metal backed by pandas. It's not a huge leap of faith to think that, but I also think that the level of demand that will be coming out of China and even the world on this exchange will eclipse their panda production and require that they seek alternatives for the physical metal. Don't get me wrong, I still like pandas and think they're a good play if you can get them from a trusted source, just not as good as they used to be and not as good as some others.

The Chinese have a lot more choice in gold products that we don't have here in the USA. (or not without paying significant premiums) So I don't see where all this new demand will go towards the Panda coins.

I like ASE's as well but not for the same reasons. Rather if precious metals are made available for payment of debt again then government minted coins will be the only ones accepted within the US. While I don't necessarily think this would cause PM's in general to rise as a direct result, I can envision ASE demand going up significantly in such a scenario.

I hope the mint continues the eagle series, I just wish that they would create a new image of Lady Liberty each year. The same coin since 1986 except for the date ... whats with that?

The Silver and gold eagles are very attractive, but I'm getting tired of buying more of the same design. The reason that I began to buy Britannia, Koala, and Pandas was to spice up my silver collection.

I'm loosing interest in the silver eagle, because it's the same design every year.

Can't speak for mainland chinese but in India and HK they mainly seek to buy gold for jewelry (they take the gold or silver and have it melted down for jewelry) so it would make little sense to grab gold coins for that.

I think the legislation that created this coin has a lot to do with that. I think now that 25 years has passed, they might be able to change it now.

IMO, the mint's most popular coins are all designs that were created long ago. I don't think their contemporary artists have it in them now to produce such art.

If there has to be somethiing British on the Commonwealth coins, my vote goes to either kate-middleton-300.jpg

    OR 73.jpg

But after a couple of these youngs_double_chocolate_stout.jpg queenelizabethii.jpg might not be as bad.

  10. I forgot to include the New Zealand silver Taku as well. Another nice looking big silver coin with some potential. Queenies mug is smaller on the obverse as well. :D TC

Agreed. I got 1 of those when they first appeared on the scene and it is a very nice coin.

Yep. Taku's debuted at $3 over spot, but now they're $5-$8 most places unless you're up for buying a tube. The design is top notch and should be a good numismatic play. Definitely one of my favorites.
