Is it illegal for coins to leave Canada? If not, same difference.

Anything with both limited mintage and a nice design. Two primary examples I collect are the Canadian Wildlife Series (1 million minted per coin) and the Perth Lunar series (300,000 minted per 1 oz coin. 1/2 oz lunars are capped as well, but 2 oz and larger are not capped so I avoid those generally). You can look at previous issues of these coins to get an idea of how they appreciate. I also like the Canadian Commemorative series (recent polar bear, and previously canoe coins) which is limited but I don't recall to how many. You will pay a premium for them, but the premiums rise.

I would have said Pandas and Brittanias fall into this, but their mintage levels have gone up too high to qualify this year IMO. 2010 and older Pandas are good to have, as well as 2011 and older Britts.

The 2011 American Silver Eagle Bullion: 40 million; Proof: .85 Million; Unc. .25 Milion; 25th Anniversary .5 million = TOTAL 41.8 million

2012 Panda estimated @ 8 Million = less than 20% of the American Silver Eagle.

This site has a stronge American bias and will never understand why Pandas are one of the best coins to buy for numismatic value in the future. I'm a big fan of the gold fractionals and all the 2009 or lower silver coins.

It probably has to do with the stigma China has with making fakes, even though the fakes that they make are most likely everything but pandas since the penalty is quite severe there for faking the home team's coins, so I've heard. I've seen pics of pretty convincing fake silver pandas though. The lower mintage years fetch some of the highest premiums around, but I don't think they will keep up with lunars now that the mintage is so much higher. I snagged some 2008 and 2009 gold fractional pandas not too long ago and feel they will be great to have, but the ship has sailed as of the 2011 issue.

The one ounce silver rounds for over 25 years had a mintage of 600k or much lower. They by far have better investing fundamentals than ASEs

    .

The only way a fake could get past me is if it was made of real gold

I'm aware of the increase in Panda mintage also, but think about this. The Chinese government has begun to take measures to encourage the population (of 1.25 billion) to invest in precious metals. Given this potential increase in demand, couldn't the concern over increased mintage end up being a moot point? Relatively speaking, 8,000,000 is not that much when viewed in terms of the Chinese population and the fact their general standard of living is improving.

What you say about the ship sailing is probably true if we look at the world as it exists today, but I think maybe we have to look at how things are evolving and what could be a very possible situation in the near future.

I agree with you and enjoy collecting many different world bullion coins, but I think the reason it has an American bias is most of the members are American. If it was comprised of primarily Canadians, I think it would have a Canadian bias; an Australian board would have an Australian bias and so forth. I very much agree with what you are not saying directly; that being "there is a great big world out there with a lot of great coins to be enjoyed."

I understood the question was about "High Numismatic Value in the FUTURE"...

I believe that the Pandas are the answer to that question.

I believe that the sleeping chinese dragon is waking, and both the massive population of China and India, who both culturally believe in PM investing are being allowed to invest, will shape the future and prices of Numismatic coins.

Pandas have already established a tradition and history of numismatic coin collecting, which will only sky rocket more in the future. IMHO

Unless you bought them 5 years ago it is little late to get in panda bandwagon there is so much premium on anything coming from China and with amount of counterfeits in the secondary markets you will be lucky to break even.

yea true. do you guys think the 2011 pandas are worth buying? i can get them for 8 dollars over spot.

In regards to Pandas. The two negatives I see to them are they generally have a high premium and like was said above, the reputation of this coin is tainted by the high number of counterfeits being produced in China.

These are bullion coins so IMO if the Chinese population starts buying silver and gold in masse, then it will cause the value of all bullion coins to rise.

Mintage # are huge 6 million 1 oz silver coins vs 1.5 million the prior year so it is getting up there with ASE.

Yea, 6 Million Pandas is almost like 41.8 million ASE :>)

6,000,000 Pandas is not even close to 40,000,000 ASEs. Also, they have a population of 1.25 billion, compared to 300 million in the U. S. I'm thinking you are not seeing the complete picture if you just look at the supply side of the equation. Equally, if not more, important is the demand side.

It grew four fold so in couple year time it will catch up with ASE in fact a lot of people are predicting 10-15 million for this year.

Just because population is 1.2 billion doesn't mean that they will be buying up Pandas, in fact most Indians and Chinese buy jewelry (for weddings and festivals) and that is where the consumption PM has exploded. Most of investment $$ there is going into real estate not PMs.

Ok, you have some valid points.

My Dad used to tell me: "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"

What is a good investment for me is not necessarily right for you...Good Luck!
