I had another CT member ask me to start this thread to see what there favorite 1 OZ gold coin and which one is more popular, though I have other 1 OZ gold coins for me at least has always been the Krugerrand and the main reason for that is instantly recognized as the industry standard for gold coins And I quote: The Krugerrand is the world's most popular gold investment coin. There are more in circulation internationally than all the other gold coins combined. To date, Krugerrand coins containing 48 million ounces of gold have been sold. There are tons of articles that say the same thing on the web, just picked this one out because it was short and to the point. This would be over the past 25+ years can remember paying $255 per coin in the 80,s ..LOL
Who's up this late lol?I choose buffalo's although not any time soon for me.You should've also included options for the other retirement golds.Such as double eagles, libertys etc I prefer those myself.
I vote Krugerrand as well. I only owned one gold coin and it was a 1977 one ounce Krugerrand in a black Capital holder. I paid around $200 for it in 1977. I kinda miss it.
Bought Krugerrands (25) until the AGE's in 1987. I try to buy 2 or 3 ounces each year. I've added the Canadian and the Austrian options as well. I've got a couple of "Buffaloes", but I can't seem to find them with reasonable premiums.
Thought I replied to this...or a very similar post...about a week ago but don't see it here. Anyway, will just say that while I voted for the AMERICAN Gold Buffalo, it's also a vote for the other AMERICAN options of the Type-1 and 2 AGE. Buy AMERICAN is my mantra/opinion.
Gold Maple Leaf coins have a lower initial premium than most of the others. .9999 purity and readily accepted by dealers and retail buyers - future value of the older design could get a small bump when the new king replaces QEII on the British (empire) coinage designs.
Just speaking about where I am…. I would always choose US gold. It is much easier to liquidate in my area of the world.
