Uneducated predict. We haven't seen nothing yet. The US Dollar is really lagging, Silver will make an jaw dropping move. If it isn't manipulated by BIG banks and investment firms maybe. just another guess. Gold reaches 2,500 an ounce for the first time in History but what is the adjusted value with inflation? being a hedge against inflation seems like its doing the job perfectly. What a time to be alive!!!! NEATO!!

I learned the other day that my friend who owns a jewelry store no longer sells mined diamonds. The synthetics have gotten so inexpensive that that is all he sells as engagement rings. High quality color and clarity stones in the 2+ carat size for a few hundred dollars. Think of all the dealers and investors who have seen their inventories lose orders of magnitude in value. I'm sure the trade journals have covered this but economic impact has to be huge in the mining and cutting centers. Diamonds were always a lousy investment but this level of loss of value is crazy.

I'm hearing the same thing. Our estate is trying to sell my late mom's wedding ring, It's appraised (for wholesale, not insurance purposes) for about 15k. The estate broker has sold everything but this one whopper of a diamond ring. She says that lab grown are the big fad these days. A naked eye can't tell the difference. I can't say I blame people.

The price of diamonds has always been fictitious. In recent decades De Beers has lost their stranglehold on the market so that's part of it too.

My wedding ring has 2 small diamonds set in pure silver that I have been wearing for 51 1/2 years. One diamond represents me, the other represents my wife. Both my wifes’ ring and mine cost around $300 back in 1973 two months before I left Active Duty Marines in Yuma, Arizona, and, believe me it was all I could afford.

Those 2 diamonds are the only ones I own…Spark

My strategy worked perfectly. Sold most of my SLV after the 50 point interest rate drop.
Got back in as silver wandered down. Bought on dips.
I’ll let it ride for awhile at $29.50 average

Nice to see you're getting your money's worth :p
I have two sitting in a safe.
The smaller one was a placeholder while I was looking for a deal on the diamond and have the other one made.
Maybe someday she will wear them again...I have a couple times more than $300 in the pair:p Platinum and Gold...no Silver.

Interesting, any articles talking about this ?

Must be a way to tell a natural from synthetic diamond, no ?

Yes there are ways to tell the difference between natural and synthetic diamonds. At one time it required sophisticated lab equipment, now, I am sure there are simpler methods but I no longer practice as a gemmologist and I am not familiar with the tests or equipment to differentiate one from the other.

Synthetic diamonds have been around for a long time. They were manufactured so there was a consistency in shapes and sizes for industrial applications. Fifty years ago the word in the gem industry was that there was no need to worry about synthetic diamond large enough to be engagement rings because they could not be grown in large sizes. That is no longer the case.

EMRTC makes industrial diamonds at there testing range in New Mexico. I've been on that range when the explosions are set off. Shakes the whole dang mountain. Just ask the deaf cows wandering around.

Not unless she has a reason to doubt you.
