So far I have purchased two silver bullion coins: Grizzly and a Timberwolf. I then picked up a 10 oz Engelhard bar and four 1/4 oz Krugerrand coins. The Canadian Wildlife series coins were test orders to see the likelihood of milk spots. Well it was what I feared. One of the coins, the Grizzly, came with mik spots. The Timberwolf was fine but I don't plan to buy anymore bullion coins from RCM. I know this is a small sample size but I like my bullion coins in BU condition and milk spots are an issue for me. I plan to buy some mint tubes of ASE's on any pull back in silver.
I know what you mean. The Royal Canadian Mint's quality control is crap. I would say at least 50% of the Canada bullion I have purchased has had milk spots. I'm pretty sure with them, BU does not mean brilliant uncirculated, but rather butt ugly. ASEs are always a very good choice.
So far I did not buy anything yet. I am trying to get some more expirence from great coins collectors like you Thanks Henry
You got an absolute steal on that dragon. The best deal I can find is $90 and that still beats eBay by anywhere from $50 to $100 bucks. Nice score! My 2012 pickups include: 2012 kookaburra, 2012 cougar, 2012 Brittania, 2012 Perth lunar dragon (1/2 oz, 1 oz, and 2 oz), a couple of the 1/2 oz dragons from the RCM, and I just nabbed some $20 polar bears from RCM earlier this morning. I'm still on the fence for the koala, plan on getting a couple pandas. When the next Canadian Wildlife series comes out I will be all over that.
For once my timing appears to have been OK (that is unless/until silver drops to below $20 again). When silver took that dip to $26-27 at the beginning of the year I went into my local B&M and bought a couple of rolls of Morgan/Peace dollars, and some Canadian silver; a handful of Maple Leafs, a Canadian Timberwolf, Cougar and Grizzly. On the bullion side I suppose I'm a stacker, who's really a collector at heart. The more I look at them, the more I appreciate the beauty and design of those Canadian bullion coins. My only problem with the Canadian wildlife series is that many coins seem to have milk spotting on them.
Picked up 2 2012 ASEs today for $34.50, 3 Buffalo Nickel 1 oz coins for $34 and the only Peace dollar my coin guy had in the junk silver tray for $26. I think I'm done for a little while. I wanted to pick up a couple hundred worth in case silver heads towards $40. I'm hoping it moves back under $30 again and I'll buy a few more ozs.
I got the 2012 American Silver Eagle and Silver Britannia from Apmex.com. The 2012 Year of the Dragon - Series II from Panda America.
I haven't purchased much yet. Tax return time is just around the corner though. So far, I have purchased around 10 Sunshine Mint rounds; being so close to the historic Silver Valley of Northern Idaho, they are plentiful. I also purchased a few of their older fractional coins. I do plan on purchasing some Britannia's and a few rolls of Eagles soon.
I ordered a 2012 ase sealed tube from APMEX (struck at san francisco mint), 5 2011 atb coins and I don't know much about the perth mint, but I hit BIN (ebay) on a 2012 koala opal just because it appealed to me.
Picked up an 8 oz 2003 ASE with the five golden state quarters on the back. Also got 22, 23, 26 and 35 Peace dollars from a "junk" bin yesterday.
Those gold eagles sure are a beautiful design. I've never seen one in hand ('yet', hopefully) but I'm always taken aback by pictures of them. Nice, and a nice picture! -L
1-2012 ASE 2-1998 ASEs 1 roll pre 65 Quarters 4-1964 Kennedy Half Dollars 2-40% Kennedy's 1-1982 Washington Commemorative Half Dollar That's pretty much it so far, but there is a coin show in 2 weeks and the Big flea market next weekend so we will see what follows me home!
So far I've purchased about 40oz of Perth Mint dragons in silver and about 2oz Au. I'm not sure what else I'm going to buy with 2012 dates, but who knows? I'm thinking I've got plenty of premium Ag, and will probably focus on volume of generics and fill in some 2012 ATB pucks and like items with lighter premiums.
I've gotten the following for 2012 ASE Britannia Moose Kookaburra Koala Dragaon Cougar Maple Leaf Now I'm just waiting for the Libertad & Panda to be released
I forgot about the cougars I have and the herd of moose that are being herded in my direction. Going to need a rather large and sturdy net to corral them...
Only bullion I picked up were a couple maple leafs, 2012 Britannia, and a couple 2008 Canadian half ounce fossil coins.
So far this year I've bought -2011 ASE -2010 ASE -2012 Maple -2003 1oz Libertad I want to buy a roll of ASE's but I'm waiting for a dip in prices
