what are indicators of deflation before it hits?

    I'm not sure this theory will turn out to be correct. The US government does not print money. It is borrowed into existence through the Federal Reserve System. So there will be a point where new money cannot be created without a crash and/or default in the bond market, taking more money out of the economy than the Fed is pumping into it -- unless, of course, Ben is anticipating the demise of his own organization.
