Another reason to own the 2006-2008 UNC's, at least they have the "W" on the reverse!!
Besides, I don't even buy them anymore as I'd rather own Walking Liberty Halves, to me they look better and their vintage!!:D

Bullion is bullion is right. :) I've been buying a tube or two from my dealer every year since '05 but I sold a few off to sustain my commemorative habit. I'm a big fan of these pieces and I've also collected the proof versions since 2000 and the burnished issues since '06. I don't kid myself as most of these coins will never be worth any more than melt value but I love the design and the feel of "heft" in my palm.

You're wise not to send 'em in for grading. The chances of us little guys getting back a '70 are rather remote. Enjoy 'em for what they are....big beautiful bullion. :) And if the need to own one of these pieces holdered in a '69 or '70 slab arises, buy it that way. It's more economical.

Hate to disagree with you green18 but I think you may be a little off on this. The 'burnished' eagles have a very good chance of becoming more valuble as they age. All have a very low mintage as opposed to the other eagles and for the most part they are of better quality than the 'bullion' eagles. The 'burnished dies' and the way they are handled at the mint make them a better looking eagle in my opinion. Also the fact that a 2006 'W' cost you around $65.00 bears this out. I cannot predict how they will do in the future but the price has already increased to more than most of the 'proof' eagles and it costs more that the 'key' 96 uncirculated. I can buy almost any 'proof' eagle for $58.00 from my local dealer, yet the 2006 'W' I have never seen in his shop for any less that $65.00. Check out the completed auctions on ebay. They also bear this out.

Hmm? I've only been at this for about 15 months so I would not have seen the 06 at $100.00. I think the 'Red Book' had it at $90.00 in 2010. That was the first 'Red Book" I bought. Guess that's 'definitive for you. (I paid waayyy too much for coins trying to use that thing as a guide. Learned my lesson!) Still I think they're a good buy. Also the 2007 and 2008 W's. I think they are still underpriced historically compared with other silver dollars. I have seen other eagles come down since I started too; like the 1994 'Proof' from $120.00 down to $99.00 for the last one I purchased; and again with the 1995 'Proof'. I couldn't find one for under a $100.00 at one point late last year. By March and April of this year I could find them locally for $75.00.

I have a 1986 which was graded an MS67 so they didn't always grade MS69 or 70 but I agree with you that most of them now will grade MS69 or 70 as the US Mint has become extremely prolific at minting these. I'm sure I could never get a high grade but CSN does it, all the time. :D

If you want a higher grade all you have to do is send it in to SGS! You should probably come back with all MS70's. I got conned in to buying a 2007 'W' graded MS70 by them. It was last year so the price was not that bad, but I still think I paid about $10.00 too much for it. Also, I agree with you on how the mint has gotten so much better at producing the eagles over time. I look at my 1986-1990 eagles and they are not nearly as 'frosty' as the later years I have and I have searched for them locally and on ebay. Additionally, the detail on the flag draped around Liberty's shoulders is much more apparent.

Not sure what 'abp' is but the October 10, 2010 Greysheet list the 2007 at $23.50 and the 2007 'W' at $25.00. The 2007 'W' has the largest production of any of the burnished eagles so that is probably why it is priced lower than the others. The 2006 'W' is still listed at $65.00 and the 2008 'W' is at $35.00. I should be receiving my November Greysheet next week and I am sure that with the price of silver approaching $30.00 the prices on the 07 and 08 W's will probably rise also (as will the price of bullion). I picked up 8 2007 W's from my local dealer about three to four weeks ago for $24.00 each and the 'bullion' he was selling was at $22.50. He is now selling bullion at 'spot' (this am it is $24.75) plus $3.35. Still in my opinion the 2007 'W' is underpriced. Not an expert by any means but I am picking up all the 2007 'W's' I can find at close to bullion.
