Now we are getting somewhere. tmoney, were you previously unaware that the US Mint makes a version of the Buffalo WITHOUT the West Point mint mark? And that this is the coin we are talking about being canceled, specifically, as I mentioned in post #5?
I know that only the buffs and the eagles have been discussed, are they still continuing the first spouse 1/2 oz? I would guess so since they were authorized by congress and we do not yet have a mint czar. Not that I am planning on getting first spouses, just for general information.
chip, the first spouse is scheduled out as far as 2016. See here: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/firstSpouse/?action=schedule
T money ..just let Argento continue his ranting. He is the delusional one. He is simply looking for attention and getting way to much of it. In the end ...who cares? He thinks he scooped everyone so let him continue strutting around like the big man on the forum. Its getting to the point of comical so the more he struts the more folks laugh. I mean really ...this is a trivial point but its his 15 minutes ...just step back and let the clock run out. He is just baiting you for attention...to satisfy his own needs.
I'm assuming the one without the "W" was the celebration coin? The ones with the "W" were the ones sold individually and the ones in the 4 piece sets. And the proofs only had "W" If this is the case, then yes I knew there would be no $50 coin with no W, as everybody else, the US mint would not continue to make the buffalos like so: 2009 W Proof 2009 W UNC 2009 UNC They said that there would be no "W" UNC coins, and there would be "W" Proof coin. Now to the best of my knowledge the celebration coin would ONLY be for 2008, if that is the case, then everything I have been saying all along doesn't change. I knew there would be no "W" mintmarked or non "W" mintmarked UNC versions of the buffalo coins.
Oh, OK, you didn't know they made the standard raw bullion like they do for the Gold and Silver eagles, without the W mint mark. See below for examples of the Buffalo version. This is the line the Mint announced as being canceled.
We are not talking about 2007 and 2006, we are talking about 2008. I know my buffalos. And I have two good sources for info on them. The original subject in question was already cleared up, and there is nothing more to discuss.
If you didn't notice, there was a non-W 2008 posted above, and no, it is not a "celebration coin" it is part of the line that was just canceled. Even big coin dealers were expecting to eventually receive the non-W, bullion '09 Buffalos. I can't blame you for wanting this discussion dropped. Your exhaustive knowledge of Buffalos is pretty exhausting, that is for sure.
My money is with T$ here... a lot of us have already read and know about this news and T$ shouldn't be misquoted untangling the argument and simply stating this... however, Argento is VERY correct in pointing out the serious lack of citing one's sources on CT. I keep running into the issue with this, esp. amongst those more inclined to stir up the poo by dropping conspiracy bombs into the chatter... come on already! Everybody reads the same news and has their obscure sources and interpretations too and a little order into our sources IS needed every time! No one CT poster produces all this data, the figures of mintages or political/economic news for instance, themselves. I'd second that with if you are initiating a thread with a story or a link you found and have already read and felt compelled to share here, then please leave some comments or thoughts to get the discussion or debate going so there's some direction to the topic. Peace all.
I can assure you dealers everywhere WERE NOT expecting any sort of bullion version of the 2009 buffalos without the W.
If you want to keep blabbing about how you were the first one to break the news to us, and you want to feel special that is fine with me. I will leave you be, and I will somebody else take over, somebody who had no clue, that the only buffalo that would have been released this year was the $50 Buffalo.
Oh really? http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/Gold.../item/Uncirculated_Gold_Buffalo_Coin_1oz_2009 And this was just the "I'm Feeling Lucky" result on Google! Really, T$, you're becoming laughable at this point.
Any respectable dealer would not have expected this coin, to ever come out. When the mint said that the $50 Proof Buffalo was the only buffalo coming out, well they meant it. You could have called a mint representative months ago, and they would have said that there was no bullion coin coming out. If anybody is shocked by this, then they must have just woke up from when the 2008 buffalos being released. I will go to my dealer and ask him if he was shocked, and the response I get will probably be laughing and saying "I knew that months ago" because lets face it, you brought this forum no new information Argento.
This is a stupid argument. I see the validity in what Argento is saying, and what T$ already thought he knew. I didn't know that the non W's would be canceled. The fact is is that they were canceled. It's a shame they were. End of story.
only 2009 american buffalo one ounce gold will be available soon. no date given. golden eagle make a mistake.
The cancellation of the bullion buffalo one ounce is good news for the 2008 buffalo W coin as they made less than 10,000 of that coin. It will be the key to the one ounce gold buffalo unc series.
The mint has this- As a result of the numismatic product portfolio analysis conducted last fall, beginning in 2009, American Buffalo Gold Proof fractional coins and the four-coin set are no longer available. Additionally, the United States Mint will no longer offer American Buffalo Gold Uncirculated Coins. So the only coin left is the proof ounce.
