Trajan, Roman emperor 98-117, issued many coin types that referred to particular historical events. Here is an educational page that discusses his coins that refer to his victory in his Dacian Wars and a few other types.

    http://augustuscoins.com/ed/Trajan/

The page was inspired by this recent acquisition:

    Trajan3sest1985c.jpg

Sestertius. Large. 33-32 mm. 27.24 grams.
Bust of Trajan right, with long legend including numerous titles:
IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP COS VI PP
    Struck 112-114.

    DACIA AVGVST PROVINCIA, SC below
Dacia seated left on rocks, holding legionary eagle in left, with child holding bunch of grapes at her feet and a child holding two ears of grain behind her right knee.

    RIC 621. Sear II 3183.

This type explicitly celebrates the new province of Dacia. The tiny figures show its agricultural wealth in wine and grain.

Take a look at the site (URL again): http://augustuscoins.com/ed/Trajan/

Show us a historical coin of Trajan!

I love the jade green color and portrait. I liked your educational site as well. Coins that represent historical events are among my favorites, but oftentimes they're outside my budget.

A very nice coin! I really like the color too.

I still have to add the lettering to the picture. But here's the historical one. I'll check out the link. Thank you for that!

Not sure if this is a "historical type"
This simple As shows two trophies. The trophies could be representations of the conquest of Armenia and Mesopotamia, or perhaps of Dacia and Parthia

I echo your accolades, TIF, and I am envious of your Trajan’s column coin with its clear reverse depiction - I have searched for such a coin for a number of years. Excellent!
