Very interesting. If we accept your figures, then for each roll of "circulated" Morgans, we lose about 1/2 ounce of silver. And at what price are dealers/pawnshops going to "eat" this loss of 1/2 ounce on each roll? Even at $15/ounce, that's $7.50 they're losing. My guestimate is that when the people who buy the junk silver from them start weighing it, it will trickle down to you, me and the other guy.
As a former math teacher (10 years), dividing Face Value by 1.4 or multiplying by 0.7 is the same difference. Certainly close enough for government work..
About those Barbers. I have never been lucky enough to find any in a junk silver bag. I do get to pick them up on occasion. Like you said, they are at a higher premium. Thank you for your posts. By the way, why is it I like the Barber dimes and half dollars, but turn away from the quarters. I think that is sort of weird.
