Oh, I'm ready anytime let this go it's natural period and then I'll post a VAM discovery piece... You would post a toughie... Doilies go all over the block. I've "CherryPicked" a Morgan at $65 from a dealer who knew what it was. And I've seen them go crazy too. And a commem to boot.... $225
Doily's really depend on where they sell. I'm guessing this was on eBay and it probably brought around $250.00.
BREAK BREAK If anybody is interested, seven PCI photo slabbed Morgans - from $140 to $500 for the CC - just landed BIN/MO on fleaBay. ENDS
@baseball21 was closest to the $300 sales price...I initially was asking a bit more but had an ebay promo for lower fees. That brought down the price by about $25 and clinched the sale. Point totals: baseball21 - 5 Points ddddd - 4.5 Points Beefer518 - 3 Points Mainebill - 3 Points Pickin and Grinin - 2 Points jtlee321 - 2 Points Burton Strauss III - 2 Points heavycam.monstervam - 1 Point jwitten - 1 Point Bman33 - 1 Point jpcienkus - 1 Point BlackBeard_Thatch - 1 Point KSorbo - 1 Point
@Burton Strauss III go ahead and post for your prior win ...by the way, it seems to me that those PCI Morgans you mentioned are priced a bit optimistically compared to prior sales.
@ddddd: "Optimistically"? Nice word choice... As we all know, you can ASK anything you want on eBay. Doesn't count until you complete a sale... Back to our contest Up is an interesting item. I bought this in 2014. First, it is a VAM discovery piece (not one of those VAMs worth a lot of money, but still a discovery piece) - a photo of the slab is shown on VAM world - and it's a VAM found in 2010, so this happened WELL after it was slabbed around 1987 or 1988: http://www.vamworld.com/1890-O+VAM-1F (When I bought it, it had a little VAM 1F sticker - I was pretty shocked to see my slab) Second, this is a large photocert slab, and one carefully designed (IMHO) around the ACG Patent (https://patents.google.com/patent/US4878579), which claims a 3 compartment slab: This slab design only has two interior retention zones, one for the coin and one for the photograph and certificate. According to USPTO records, the Accugrade patent was originally assigned to a Robert M Paul of Meadowbrook PA. Third INGS... a PA business search find a 1987 company registration with a Robert M Paul of Newtown PA as the President/Treasurer [Strangely listed as still active]. FWIW, both Paul addresses are residences and the two towns are about 13 miles apart. So maybe they didn't have to work around the ACG slab patent. SampleSlabs shows two INGS - http://www.sampleslabs.com/ings.html - black and gold names (I have examples of both, but no samples). Not a lot else is known about INGS. Fourth, value... the meat of our contest... An 1890O Morgan in MS63 is worth around $122 according to CDN's collector's price guide (see https://www.greysheet.com/coin-prices/item?id=7200&CatalogId=1), but auction sales run from $70 on up over the last 2 years. NumisMedia says $115 with no real change since 2010. So let's say it was worth ~115 in 2014...
Thats a decent looking, slam dunk (imo) 1 pt upgrade. Which makes it a $300 coin all the sudden. Typical 90o weak strike. Ill go - $101 thinking the seller wasnt aware of what they had.
$ 80. And I will also add I have I believe 3 of these ING slabs most like the PCI photo slabs are under graded, and I will add more when my wallet and availability both are in line. Hidden treasures in these don't over look them.
