In fact, I'll play from my own 1901 and shift us to Canada.

So Canada or 1901, to the next player.

Can't believe I have a chance to post this.

The coin is in the SDB and shockingly the only photos I found were from ~2004 (according to my software stamp). They were scanned IIRC, and the full size images were about 400x400! So this photo collage is full size!

edited to add: The coin is one of my early purchases after re-finding the hobby. It certainly was a HUGE monetary outlay for a non-bullion coin! Not only that I bought the coin raw (!) from Syracusian/Dimitri for those who hang on the PCGS boards. It was quite an act of faith for both of us, it was pre-PayPal and he had to cash a check I think.

So it was mailed from Greece to the US, then out to Japan as I had an FPO back then. Then I toted it to Hawaii on a vacation where I attended a coin show. ANACS was there so I had it slabbed and it came back a 63 (back in the little, white slab days). A decade+ later I ended up crossing it to NGC where it got a more appropriate 64.

It remains one of my most treasured coins and was the genesis of many a read about the life of Queen Victoria. I managed to 'justify' it over the years as I am pretending to build a 2 pound type set.

Now, someday soon I will have to fetch it from the box for a new beauty shot.

    ------
Second edit, I had to figure this out. I joined PayPal in 2000, so it wasn't pre-paypal, but I still think it was a check transaction. Either way it was certainly an act of trust on both our parts!

Next up: Great Britain and/or 1893!

@Stork - you definitely should reimage that beauty! Speaking of Dimitri/SYRACUSIAN from Collectors Universe, you gave me the perfect segue. Not only does this give me an opportunity to play off Great Britain again, with another old-head Vickie (half-) sovereign, but I bought this one from Dimitri in January of 2005. (Todd Pollock later imaged it for me, through the plastic. The slab image below is a scan.)

So that's again Great Britain or 1901 to the next player.

(I have a lot of pix of 1901 British Empire Victoria coins, since that was an old themed collection I built for my daughter from 2001-2012).

@Stork- I've always loved those- great Art Deco design. If memory serves, I think you sent me a circulated example of one of those, once?

@rooman9- yes, the Wreath crowns like @daveydempsey posted are indeed nice. I've never had one of them, either. And I've collected British coins a long time. Just never got around to having one of those, I guess.

So it's 1936 or Uruguay to me, then?

OK. I don't have Uruguay, but I can do 1936. Stand by while I go fetch the picture...

OK, here we go. 1936 or USA, to the next player.

This humble Merc dime from 1936 came into my possession on Thanksgiving Day, 1976, when I found it in my grandmother's silverware drawer while setting the table. In other words, it is "the coin that started it all" for me. El Numero Uno.

It seemed incredibly ancient to me, since it was 40 years old at the time, and I was a 10-1/2 year old kid. Now it's been 40+ years since I found it.

I still have it. It is one of only two pieces that remain from my childhood collection, along with the 1827 Bust half I got for my 11th birthday that December.

The Mercury dime is one of my favorites. This one recently came in change!
