Bolivia 1825 - eight-reales - with a stupendous right-facing bust of Ferdinand VII. Only five years older than Chris B's coin!

Still Bolivia but a bit less than a hundred years later - 1987 - with this two-centavos piece.

This one could arguably be called a coin from the Netherlands, or Belgium, which is what the region later became.

So 1790 or Netherlands or Belgium to the next player, then.

Belgium (Austrian Netherlands): copper 2 liards (2 Oorden); Insurrection coinage, 1790

1780 Holland duit. I know I have posted this one before, it is about the cleanest duit I have and I just love that lion dancing around with his hat on the staff. 1780 H 1 d obv.JPG 1780 H 1 d rev.JPG

    "1780" Maria Theresia thaler.

It's a 20th century restrike, of course. But a nice big flashy piece of silver.

Call it 1780 or Austria to the next player.

I think those Maria Theresia Thalers still are used as trade dollars in Africa. Here is one that came yesterday in a batch of 100 mixed world coins, my latest addiction. 1901 Austria 1 heller.

Though I just posted him in another thread a few minutes ago, here's good ol' Leopold Hogmouth again.

Say what you like about him and his colorful nickname- the man had some serious jowls, and fabulous hair, to boot (if it wasn't a wig, which was common at the time).

Austria: silver 3-kreuzer of Leopold I ("The Hogmouth"), 1700-IA, minor clipped planchet error
