Okay, so I'm a stacker and a prepper. So I thought I'd start a thread so all the stackers and preppers here can offer advice to the members here who are not.
First priority is food and water. I think that's the most obvious, but have enough to get by in case this gets ugly and by ugly I mean empty shelves at the stores.
Second should be just as obvious, silver/gold/cash. Cash for the short term, paying bills and such, metals for when times get tough.
Third, guns and ammo. You have to protect number 1 and 2.
Fourth would be meds and other supplies necessary for health and wellness, including TP.
As for stacking, we just might be on the cusp of the paper markets collapsing so don't sell unless absolutely necessary. Silver is the most undervalued asset for a reason and that reason is that THEY DON"T WANT YOU BUYING IT. So they inflate all the assets they want you in and devalue the ones they don't, but like all bubbles, when they burst you'll find out the real value of the assets they devalue. All this is just my opinion of course and if some disagree I'd love to hear why.

We don't worry about too much of that stuff. We live out in the country. We only need a generator to make sure the well keeps pumping and the refrigerator keeps working. Our well water is better than any water you can buy. We have guns and plenty ammunition and wildlife. Some ducks on the pond as well as plenty of fish in the pond. We can always put in a garden if needed. We have a few fruit trees. The most important would be the meds.

Yeah, sounds like you'll be alright. I live on the lake so there's wildlife everywhere around me. since the lakes been up so far the deer are cutting thru my backyard now. Oh yeah, a good water purifier helps, I have a Berkey. Just got my garden in, with all this rain we should have a good year. I'm not on any meds, but if you are it's better to get extra if you can, just in case.

It must be strange to be so paranoid. You believe "they" (banks? the government? who?) doesn't want you to buy bullion?
This is because restaurant sales have decreased because of shelter in place orders, so people have to buy most of their food from the stores and eat at home. However, total amount of food consumed is unchanged. Secondly, people are worried they will be stuck at home, so they are buying more in individual trips than they normally would, but once their pantries are stocked from that trip, there is no need or likelihood that they will make another big shopping trip.
In no way does any of this suggest any shortage of food whatsoever. However, I am sure you won't believe anyone who tells you there is plenty of food because you're so scared of even your own shadow.

Here's a historical comparison of the value of silver.
    1 Kings 10:29
A chariot from Egypt cost fifteen pounds of silver shekels and a horse three-and-three quarters pounds [of shekels]; all the kings of the Hittim and the kings of Aram purchased them at these prices through Shlomo’s agents.

    15 lbs. x 14.583 troy oz. = 218.745 troy oz.
    3.75 lbs. x 14.583 t oz. = 54.68625 t oz.
    218.745 + 54.68625 = 273.43125 t oz.
    273.43125 x $14.90 = $4074.12 in today's currency

I don't think "prepping" in general means "prepping for the way things are today". What happens if your state, or one that supplies a lot of your food, gets completely locked down for a while? What happens if the cohort of people who normally harvest that food suddenly aren't allowed to work?

When we bought our little ranch we had the well tested. A representative from one of the big purifier companies tested it. He told us that he could sell us the best system available but we would not like it because our water was better than anything he could guarantee, and the system might make it worse. We've had it tested twice more over the years and it hasn't changed. The state test just last month had the same results as the last one. Can you imagine a salesman recommending that you don't buy a system? That's the way it is out here in Nowhere Texas.

Everyone should "prep" in the most basic sense of having a couple weeks' worth of food, plenty of water, multiple layers of financial protection, possibly a gun, etc. But by no means are we experiencing anything that calls for hoarding food beyond those amounts.

Silver and gold will do you no good without an economy and markets...unless you plan to eat them or throw them at those people who might be there to take your food, water, meds, etc....

Is this why I can find TP? Panic and fear buying. Hope they are wrong.

There will be a glut on the market for TP, flour, and canned goods very soon because people won't need to buy them for some time.

Well, we can all hope the store shelves are restocked just like always, but if they're not don't be standing there with your hand out expecting those that had the sense to plan ahead to help you. Do you hear that? That's the world's smallest violin playing just for you, hahahaha.

    Here's a scenario for discussion :

Trump (or some other President) declares a national emergency.
The President rescinds our civil rights.
People gather in the street to protest.
The President declares an even larger national emergency.
The President invites in the Russian Army, or the Mexican Army, or some other nation's army, to quell the riots.
Once that nation's army is in place, that nation takes over the government.
America then becomes some other nation's vassal state.

Don't laugh. This same scenario has played out multiple times through world history.

Yeah, it has and it will take the men out there to step up and make sure that doesn't happen.

It's too bad that we, as citizens, can't stockpile the same type of weapons that some other country's army will have.

The point is that folks just don't know what gonna happen, so instead of being worried and scared take things into your own hands and if that mean putting a little aside everytime you buy food than so what. It's better to be safe than sorry. And yes, of course I've put up more than I need but that's so I have enough for the folks I care about who didn't and yet I'm sure some will call me a hoarder.

That is extremely unlikely to happen, but that is why there is a 2nd Amendment as the final safeguard against tyranny.

However, if you invest the time to learn about the safeguards in place to prevent any of those scenarios you describe, you'd have little to nothing to worry about.

I'll briefly mention a few to help you with your search:
Why it's extremely unlikely for another nation to invade and take over the United States
    1) we are supremely geographically protected by vast oceans on both sides, friendly neighbors on the other sides, and a gigantic country with our government and its military spread out in that vastness. Most other nations also lack air craft carriers, for those few who have them, have only one. Therefore, not only would be very unlikely for a foreign nation to reach the United States with an occupying force, but if they did, it would be near impossible to take over the whole nation.
    2) The United States has the best military in the world. It won't be defeated by a conventional military force intent on occupation.
    3) The United States has the most military allies of any country in the world. So even if 1 and 2 failed, our allies are an added layer of protection.
    4) The United States has the largest civilian population with guns in the world. If 1, 2, and 3 failed, we have the American people.

Why it's extremely unlikely for the United States to fall to tyranny
    1) As the oldest Democracy in the world, we have a very long history of liberalism and self government, making it unlikely for it to suddenly stop working.
    2) The structure of the country is such that power is vested not just in three coequal branches of government at the federal level but also 50 individual state governments. This would make it extremely difficult for all of them or even a majority of them to fall to tyranny.
    3) The United States belongs to more international organizations than any country in the world who agree with and help us mutually reinforce our democracy and liberalism. Should the United States begin to backslide, we have a host of other nations to assist us.
    4) If all else fails, we have a heavily armed civilian population.
