I'm envious of collectors who can add Gold coins to their collections. JBOCON, That is an exquisite display. I'm simply not in a position to buy gold. I'm excited to see this year's Mercury Dime Centennial, but have little hope of buying one. I think I probably represent the majority of collectors in that regard.

There's is a grey line between collectors and investors. I say grey line because you can certainly be both. Many of us can't participate at the level of Gold. Obviously, any one could probably save up and purchase a $5 Gold American Eagle (currently being offered at $105), but why would you? It's so small and un-exciting. I can't even think of how I might explain to my wife that I'd spent $1500 for a Gold Buffalo coin. Plus, at some point, you have to start thinking about security and making plans to "visit" your Gold coins once in awhile.

In my collection, anything that costs $100, and up, is purchased with NO thought of EVER selling it (possible exception would be the arrival of Armageddon). I have a beautiful 1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar, that would probably grade Fine. I won't ever sell it. It'll be there long after I'm gone.

"Hey, wanna see my $5 Gold Gold American Eagle? Sure, where is it? It's right there, you're looking at it. Where? It's right there!"

Cmcart - Is that the same young lady in both pictures? Not sure why she's there, but she's very pretty. The painting is FANTASTIC! Jack

JBO, I can certainly sympathize with you as I have been out-of-work for some time, working only occasional PT jobs. Even when working FT, I couldn't afford to buy all the gold bullion or numismatic coins I would want.

Save for financial assets first, and then save up and treat yourself to a 1 oz. gold coin every now and then. You can buy a modern bullion or proof or reverse proof or a classic like a Liberty or Saint Double Eagle. When you decide to move, reach out here.

Always afford what you collect, and then enjoy what you collect.
