I am actually starting to think that maybe I will buy generic rounds when I can, then also collect certain "coins" from around the world . It would make for interesting discussion with my boys (5 and 11yo) and the 5 yo loves maps so it's a natural.
My opinion on the topic to this thread is this site has a love for ASEs unlike other forums that deal with bullion so be aware
silver eagles are fine, bullion rounds have some nice designs, but if you find pandas or kooks or other such things at melt, snatch it up.
From a collectors standpoint, any year ASE, Maple, Kook, Brittania can only be minted for that year. Any particular design silver round, which is most times undated can be minted theoretically for an unlimited amount of time. So rounds are for speculating in the PM market and ASE's, etc. can be more towards speculating in the numismatic market. The arguement is like comparing apples to oranges- they're both fruit, grow on trees and are roundish in form but from there they diverge. Rounds and ASE's are both silver and round but that's about all the similarites there are. I like rounds and ASE's (et. al.) just like I like apples and oranges but they're not completely interchangeable.
