Canada sold most gold in 2012, when Carney was BOC Governor/ under Harper. Back in 2012, the Loonie was worth $1.12US, now after Justin Trudeau (2015-2025) it is 1.45 C$ = 1US$ Yes, but gold is getting scarcer and costing more to mine. You see that in "Goldrush" series.
I've never heard of your dollar called a Loonie. I thought you were referring to Carnie. (or maybe Trudeau)
Its an ugly coin. Canada had Silver Dollars till 1967. In 1987 it was to replace Dollar Bill. Its nicknamed the Loonie since it features a "loon". You have the Golden Eagle, We (Germans) have Stellars Sea Eagle as nat'l symbol.
A two dollar coin featuring a Polar Bear. Or in realistic terms a $1.50 US more like a "Teddy Bear" Here is a real beautifull "Bear" Dukat from Saint Gallen Abbey.
A Toonie is a Canadian two dollar coin. It was introduced on 2-19-1996 to replace the two dollar bill. It has a Polar Bear on one side and King Charles III on the other. That started in 2023. It is Canadas highest value circulation coin. It has a two toned look and has a ringed appearance due to being bi-metallic, nickel plated steel and a brass colored copper-nickel inner core. There is a locking system to hold the two pieces in place. It lasts about 20 times longer than paper money.
From my Florida LCS junk box last week. Just take them he said. Back in Syracuse next summer they are 50% of face, cash USD. Or more if someone is going to Canada.
