That's a little extreme. Who's talking about buying candlesticks with wax fillings?

I'm not discouraging anyone from buying 1 oz coins if they want. Just simply stated that you can add extra ounces of silver by buying bars. And that those ounces add up over time. So you might have slightly less money when you sell, but you're also paying a lot less premiums up front which translates to more silver when you sell.

But by all means buy whatever you want. I have 1 oz coins, 10 oz bars, and kilo bars. If I ever run across any interesting odd weight bars like 5 oz or 20 oz bars, and the premiums were decent, I'd probably buy that too. If any dealer has a good deal on 1 oz coins, then I buy that. I buy the most silver I can for the least premium possible no matter what form factor it comes in.

Same thing with gold. If I can get a much better deal on a Krugerrand or a Perth Mint Kangaroo, you better believe I'm gonna save that $75 or $100 and use that to buy a little bit of extra silver.

U.S. Coinage for me I collected ASE there are more popular and recognizable to me than rounds. I am going to sell silver and gold coins at an estate Auction. My father-in-law passed earlier this year, and my wife is getting the titles and such through Probate Court. I met with Auctioneer yesterday and his charge for his part is 17% on personal items and 5 % on real estate. I am going to test this market for selling OCTOBER 4. I have been to a few where coins sold and they did really well. Most always over spot on U.S. Coinage unless condition dictates otherwise or cleaned or damaged etc. When I first started, I bought from the Mint (2012) after reading on here I stopped buying. but I did get lucky and got the 2019 S SILVER ENHANCED Rev PR sent it and got it graded. I still can't tell a 69 from a 70.

My lcs sells generic at $2 an oz over spot and ase at $5 an oz over. Cut and dry. Buys generic at 95% of spot and buys ase at 98% of spot. But another lcs that sells ase for $8 over spot will buy them for 100% of spot. So am I better buying the eagles at dealer 1 and selling to dealer 2 or buying generic? Or putting money into stocks? Eh. Silver is more fun.

You're better off putting money to stocks to be honest. But there's nothing wrong with keeping a little bit on the side and precious metals too.

Anyway, just to prove that I'm not just a bar snob, I went to a coin dealer today and I managed to get two tubes of dimes, one of 55 Roosevelt silver, and one with 55 Mercury silver, all XF to Mint State (cherry picked by me) and only paid $5 premium total. That averages to 64 cents per ounce of silver in premiums. How's that for a deal?

I'm telling you, for me it just comes down to the best premium I can find on my silver. I could care less if it's silver dimes, one ounce rounds, or silver bars. I am not paying $8 premium on an ounce of silver @UnCommonCents

A lot easier to make a profit when you sell in the future if you can get it at less than $1 per ounce premium than $8 ounce premiums....that's for sure.

Iam beginning to like the odd size silver bars for instance I just bought a 5.45
and got a bid on 10.22 bar right now, your really paying a big premium but
I think there pretty popular, also like MK Barz chunky one once coins here's one I just picked up.

If you are seeing a $75 or $100 spread between those coins, look elsewhere. As a percentage the bid/ask spread on 1 ounce gold coins is less than that for silver, so as long as you don't stack an oddity like Grant Wood Commemorative Arts Medals, you should be fine.

And no, that's not a random example. The bad news is I have half a dozen of the damn things. The good news is I bought them at around $800 each.

Without a microscope few can. I would never pay the premium from an MS 69 to an MS70. I see no difference with my eye.

A lot of people do believe it or not, you can tell this by the money spreads between the two, bottom line people seek perfection though the differences between a 69 and 70 are microscopic.
