Today, I opened the last 2 rolls of cents I hadn't got around to searching yet. I found a tarnished 1958 Roosevelt dime in the roll. It was one of those brown wrappers that come with the coin counting banks. Guess someone thought it was a cent ? I hardly ever find silver any more, but that matches my entire last years' find of a single Roosevelt silver dime in all the rolls I searched. I may stay with cents.

Congrats, Gary! One theory would be a coin sorting machine thought it was a cent due to the volume it was sorting. I've found dimes in roles of cents, but never a silver dime. In fact, I've went through a few BOXES of dimes and haven't found a single silver dime yet. Heck of a score!

I have lately been hitting up the teller trays for halves. No silver, YET but so far I have only been able to purchase roughly 2.50 in halves. The banks around here don't stock halves and I lack the capital for the ordering of a box.

Also, as I mentioned earlier I have found 2 silver quarters in my first 4 months of hunting. That is just from laundry money so never give up hope!

I am also wondering if by chance any has tried coin machines? You know, like the ones at laundry mats and such? Perhaps they just recycle what gets dumped into their machines? Possible gold mine for silver! Wow, what an oxymoron!

Interesting theory. Seems they would simply get rolls from the banks to stock them but I really have no idea. If nothing else you could make a small percentage of your town wear dirty socks and underwear while you walk clean and fresh...

In under my first month of searching for silver I have come up with 2 1964 kennedys 1 1952 franklin 3 roosie dimes, and the potential of $7 walking liberties, $3.25 quarters, $5.10 dimes, 8 franklins...know i have that on the line has me giddy. Hopefully that deal comes through :)

Keep an eye out for errors if it is roll searching that gives you a bang. Personally, I like the bags (when I can get them). Halves are a lot of fun to search through. (bags also tend to have older dates to them, but no guarantee). Not sure if you can get bags of halves in your neck of the woods. Our tellers are reluctant to let their bags go -they claim they have already been searched.

Don't forget coin shops, antique shops, gun shows, and other places where you might be able to pickup silver at near spot price. Most of the bank folks do their own sorting while working-at least some of the tellers I have known do.

    Good luck.

Well I nabbed another piece of silver today! The quarter slot on the cash register at work today had one quarter left in it, so I grabbed a roll, cracked it and began to empty it into the register...ofcourse checking all the coins to see if they were silver or not. About 3/4 of the way through I am thinking it is a total bust when all the sudden there it was: A 1957-D Washington. Upon seeing it I get really excited naturaly...then hope and pray that I have 25 cents in my pocket to even the till...I did =D. The quarter was n decent shape too! Not all beat up, can still make out the feathers on the eagle, George's bow.

This brings my total personal findings to 75 cents. All quarters. All at, or from work (I buy rolls for laundry here and there.) All of this has been in the last 6 months, which is when I got turned on to silver and coin collecting. This is such a contrast to other's luck because I saw a post on this forum in the roll searchers thread where a guy has searched over THOUSANDS of dollars worth of quarters and found 7 silvers yet I have gone through a lot less and found 3. Then again I have yet to find a single silver dime or war nickel OR half dollar out there in circulation, whereas others have amazing luck with halves and decent luck with dimes...a lot more luck than with quarters at least.

May the luck continue, for all of us!

I search registers as well, always look at my coins when I open a roll. This last year was one of the best I had in years, one silver quarter, one silver dime and my first ever war nickle. Then I went to get change for work the day before black Friday, and ended up with two roll of silver quarters. Now I keep hoping that it will happen again, and I am saving up for a box of halves now that I know that silver runs through that bank.

Aennedry, -- good fine. I like the enthusiasm. I sorted a small bowl at home last evening. I did ok on copper - Lincoln cents.

I usually ask the tellers and cashier's for the darker cents. They add up after a while. I only made one full roll, and I have another well started.

On slow days at work I'll pull the penny rolls from the safe and sort out the copper. Mostly Lincolns, but every now and then a wheatie. Got some Peruvian pennies once, they were cool.
