If your just staring out investing in Silver I thought I would mention the different types of bars, probably for investment purposes the 10 OZ is probably the most popular, so what’s the difference ? on the generic side of silver, most not all will have just a logo, but not branded secondly it will be minus a serial number and assay also in most cases depending on where you buy it your premiums can be up to 50 % lower then branded silver like Engelhard or Johnson Matthey probably the most popular names in the industry since you are paying less, you will also get less again depending on who your dealing with. Here are some samples of generic 10 OZ Bars.
As far as boutique 10 0Z bars, there can be little bit of grey area there as some don’t meet the criteria that I mentioned above but anything by the top two refiners would be considered boutique regardless Engelhard or Johnson Matthey and you can expect to pay a much steeper premium here some examples of the boutique bars
I opted for silver balls. At just over 650 grams each, these bad boys present a really heavy "carry premium" . . . . Z
There are several variations, and different refiners you can checkout populations and tiers on this website:
Then you have the tweeners not generic but don’t have the same recognition as the top two, here’s a real good example, when ever my LCD has these in stock I gobble them up IGR Serialized comes with assay $4.50 over spot
