Did anyone see the Gold exhibition at the Natural History Museum in NYC in 2006/07? That was a stunning show, with some sweet examples of raw coins amongst all the bars and nuggets. There's a decent website for the exhibition still running here: http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/gold/
Chief, Mitsubishi was also responsible for creating this 220 lb. gold block for the Takayama museum in Japan. It used to be on display for visitors to TOUCH! See pic below... Then, in March 2007, three burglars stole it by DRAGING it out of the museum. Eventually they were caught and some of the gold was recovered as they were attempting to divide it and change it's form. Crazy true story. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20070319/japan-gold-theft/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6464389.stm
Wow! Nice display. What is that big $10 gold Eagle coin between the slabs and non slabbed coins? Is that an oversize replica in gold? What are the ounces on that? I can't tell the scale, probably the real deal!!!
And yet ANOTHER major hunk of gold stolen in Japan in 2007... "A gold bathtub worth 120 million yen ($988,100), which was stolen from a hotel near Tokyo May 30, 2007, is seen in this photo taken June 2005. Japanese police are scratching their heads over how the bathtub weighing some 80 kg was stolen from a shared bathroom for men on the 10th floor of the hotel. Thanks! I think that coin only looks big next to the 1/10 oz. eagles. It is a half ounce, 1908 $10 gold Indian Head. It is my favorite coin of my entire collection, even if it might have some issues. Some day when I can afford it, I would like to start collecting more older US gold.
Yes you are right, I didn't realise those were the 1/10 ozs. The $10 Eagle is just gorgeous and I just saw you posted it in the other thread too! Thanks for the close up pics there.
I have my very own treasure chest with a few goodies such as custom cut Penoles silver bars, a couple of 1/4 Gold Phils, 1/10 2008 platinum eagle, old poured silver bars, Perth Mint stuff, a couple of UHRs, etc.
