As we near the end of the fifth season, I thought it a good time to update the stats. The first season was the worst value (high prices with much lower current values). The second season was nearly a wash (lower prices with about the same current values). The third season was the pinacle of success with the Hawaii, Acadia, and Denali pucks. The fourth season was a good one with low purchase prices and higher current market values. The fifth season is shaping up to be an average one when you add in the savings from the discount subscription program. Sales remain steady for the four remaining pucks on sale from the mint at the higher price of of $155. It does appear that all but the Everglades puck will have a sell by early next year. I'm thinking that the mint was smart enough to lower production on the Everglades puck, but if not, it may linger longer than the presidential dollar series. It seems like the market for these has gotten saturated and prices have dropped over the past month or so. At least on ebay that's happened. Auction prices have been very weak for the 2010, 2013 and 2014 collector's pucks.
Well, I finally ordered a P FL Puck and it took 2 returns to get a good one. Is quality control declining on these?
My Everglades fancy puck was so badly produced the alligator ended up looking like some sort of bird.
Mine finally arrived today after a 3 week tour of the USA with a nice rim ding, so is going back tomorrow. I have never returned anything to the Mint, so this is a first for me. I called to express my concerns about quality, and they graciously offered to send me another. I told them no and that I was going to start buying 5oz Libertads instead...lol. TC
They are still selling the last two 2014 collector pucks (Great Sand Dunes & Everglades). Shenandoah and Arches are now sold out. Great Smokey Mountains was sold out earlier in the year.
Thanks for the info. But I wonder about the accuracy of the value quoted above? Also, any chance for an update in near future?
The value of the pucks seem to be pretty stable over the past several months and not really changing much with the dip in silver prices. I'm basing the value on the completed sales on ebay. I hope to update the list this weekend. If history is any guide, the market value will dip slightly after the Christmas season.
Here is the latest update on the pucks. The Acadia and Hawaii pucks continue to hold their value with a few sold after the Christmas season at a nice profit. The mint is out of stock of the Shenandoah and Arches pucks with the Great Sand Dunes and Everglades still on sale. It will be interesting to see if the mint makes more of the out of stock pucks to reach the 30,000 limit. Here is a chart that I created to compare the market value against the mintage (where 1 is Hot Springs and 25 is Everglades. Mintage versus Market Value
They have lowered the price of the collector pucks from $154.95 to 149.95. The first 2015 puck, Homestead, is currently in a processing status at the mint.
Nice to see they lowered the price. I wonder if they did that before or after they sent out all of the enrollment orders...
Hi Phil, Nice thread, just wanted to point out that the NQ0 is not spelled El Yungue but El Yunque with a letter q. My family lives near that national park in Puerto Rico and I know it very well.
