Picked up another beautiful lot of toned Jeffs. Couple of key dates 1939 D Rev of 38 1942 D Here are some that really stood out.
A 1964 SMS nickel? I thought the Special Mint Sets were from '65-'67. Is there anything special about this nickel? I find literally dozens of 1964s every week.
It's not an SMS. Although in 64 they did come out with a small amount of SMS's. Talk to Robec about it he knows more about it then I do.
I don't know a great deal about them other than what I've read. I've read there are two dozen or less known to exist. I would greatly doubt Rare-Tim's is one of them. I'm having a tough time trying to figure out why he even thinks it is. Other than the fact it has a bust of Jefferson on one side and Monticello on the other, this coin doesn't remotely resemble the look of an SMS Jefferson nickel.
I seriously hope your Jefferson and Lincoln are 1964 SMS coins. Going by your photos though I just can't see it. I hope you send both in for authentication and will let us know the results. I love seeing coins captured in the wild that could be the "big ones". Here are four Jefferson's from CoinFacts to compare with yours. Only because you posted this. "If u can find a nickel from 1964 struck as good as my coin, I'll believe when u say it isn't a SMS." If you look at the rim, u can tell the difference. The first three are rounded. The SMS and my nickel are well struck, have square rims, and the razor sharpness special strike SMS coins should have. This is the real color of the nickel.
It may or may not be SMS but I have to send it in to pcgs. I have a lot brand new nickels and this one blows em out the water even after being in circulation. It's definitely not proof or business struck.
