Well i have become a little to impatient with my Johnson Matthey 10 oz bar collection
as allot of those types of bars come up once every blue moon and usually the price points arent to friendly either...LOL so going to try and do both, was just looking around
Today and found this gem, nothing super special about it as its a common p-11, however i was able to get it below a generic price which always makes me happy :)
Most of the time you will pay a premium for the name alone if not your way out in front of the game.

I'm not a collector of these, but I see quite a few J&M's and Engelhard bars coming into my favorite local shop. What kind of premiums do they usually have? He typically charges spot + $0.70 per ounce or so. I've seen some really cool ones come in, just have not had the cash for them. He had a really cool 1 kilo J&M just recently.

    What actually is
    below a generic price ?

As for jtlee, if you can do an ebay search for sold bars that your local guy has for sale and the spread OR potential profit is worth your time? That might get you into done cheap to free bullion.

It all depends on the shop or online site that your looking at but you will usually find
a couple different prices, your generic price point, which covers all your investment
Silver (Bullion only) then you have your designer silver (Bullion Plus), this would generally be bars from Johnson Matthey , Englehard or other well known producer.

Heres an example from JM Bullion,s website currently selling:

Generic @ 176.90 (There lowest price per 10 OZ Bar, when buying multiples)

    Designer @ 201.99

So you can kind of do the math from there on premiums but each shop is different
But you goal as always is to get the cheapest price :)

Below generic is the best possible price, i would say that is pretty close to spot :)

Id have to go dig up a couple silvers and take a picture, how about a gold Engelhard that you don't see everyday.

I paid up for it but not too crazy a number.
I added it to the AllEnglehard site and there is one in a 2.5 gram weight that I saw years ago, seller was asking $600.

Asking and realized are two different things, most of the people are insane on what there asking for certain things when it comes to gold and silver bars for me always
go by rarity, sometimes you have to educate the sellers...LOL

Unfortunately it does look polished. :( I try to treat these like coins and medals, not to clean or polish them. However, at close to spot I guess it really doesn't matter.
    Nice pick up. :)

I think that depends on the type of patina, the above bar was in original chrome finish, i have seen allot of different looks on these type of bars from polished and
In between, i have many poured bars that i have just let the original patina grow
However if a cast bar is looking nasty in the original packaging i will always remove it and clean it up to a nice luster :)

Got a couple more in today ! though the first one is not a Engelhard bar, i have been
Pursuing a great example for some time now and finally got the opportunity but i
Though i lost it, was outbid at the last minute and was really ticked off, but to my surprise the seller had another one that he listed and i was able to get that one
There are a few on ebay but there not near this pristine, got this on for under $200
    With free shipping :)

Just got these in from the bay today:

Won both of these in the same auction:

Engelhard 10 OZ and 1 OZ Bars

Both are considered Tier 2 Bars with less then 5,000 produced, these commercial
Bars were manufactured for the Gold Standard company
