I have a CrazyHoundDog-pedigreed coin, too! His is the name I think of when I think of attractively toned Buffalo nickels. I bought this before he had the fire, but not from him directly, as I recall. Poor fella. Good guy, from what little I know about him in our limited contact on the CU forums.
I got to meet the guy a while back. It was really cool to see the services and so many others step up to help out.
Well, @C-B-D this one was once in your care. It is my avatar coin and I have said how much I enjoy her a thousand times on this forum. I have spent more on coins since I got this one from you, but this remains my absolute favorite coin and makes me happy each time I hold her.
This is the one coin I kept from my dad when he passed.i wish I would have kept them all .I think of him every time I look at it.
This one always brings a smile to my face. this has the "small, wide" cc reverse, which was used from 1873-1876 (What a die!)
Here’s a $3-ish coin that I spent nearly $50 on to have it put into a slab. In fact, I go into the reasons why in the OP of my “post a cheap coin that makes you happy” thread. Hey, it’s now population 1, and the “finest known”, simply by virtue of the fact that I’m the only person who’s been silly enough to submit one to PCGS so far!
Grandpa split up his coins among his grandchildren just before he died. Among many other coins, I ended up with this one, which lead to a lifelong interest in coins. The "happy" part has evolved over time of course - in 1972 at 13 years old when I looked up how much it was worth, I was happy that I was rich. Almost 50 years later, I'm more happy for the memories it brings.
I've told about this coin in another post, but didn't have it in hand, at the time, so I couldn't post a picture of it. I have it back now, so I get to post a picture. My mother wore it in her shoe on November 19, 1930 when she and my dad got married. I have 5 sisters, but she gave it to me when I started coin collecting. The reason I didn't have it last time was because my daughter-in-law wore it in her shoe on November 03, 2019 when she and my son got married. And, I was honored to perform the ceremony for them! The coin is a Denver mint.
