AFAIK, this incident is not related, it's CC fraud pure and simple. I had to act fast, though, as I would otherwise be subjected to finance charges from any number of companies/organizations that automatically bill that card. I just hope I didn't overlook anyone when I did a number of switches to another card. I was assured the other night when the CC company called that I shouldn't be concerned, but today, I got two emails from them, one of them suggesting that they are "checking into this" which sounds to me like they really hadn't removed the charge, and another warning me that my account had surpassed the $5K monthly limit I had set on spending. I try to limit my online spending to as few sites as possible — mainly just Amazon and eBay — and am reluctant to buy from anyone else. I bought something from New Egg, once. I'm therefore concerned about how my CC number got out. I use it in grocery stores/Walmart and restaurants, so the restaurants are the only places where the card is out of my possession.
After calling to check the status of my order, I was told to expect some delay due to the weather issues. They are based in Houston, and delivery times have been delayed somewhat. They are saying 10-15 days should be expected for recently placed orders. Still no pushing other products on me, or hassles of any kind. (YET)
When I posted this, I knew that it was a kind of scam on the part of the company. I also knew that it was a way to get some gold fairly cheap, that is why I chose the bullion forum. I researched the company before contacting them and am fairly confident that I knew all the pitfalls and how to avoid them. If you want to take advantage of this, fine, if not, fine. I will continue to let you know about the progress of the transaction as I am sure @Johndoe2000$ will.
Take advantage of their low/free offers. diligently opt out/cancel/etc. on all automatic commitments within the time limit. eventually they will stop offering the low/free stuff to you - a dear john letter, your picture on the wall by the cash register, etc.
"When I posted this, I knew that it was a kind of scam on the part of the company." My feeling is that it isn't a scam 'til one of the buyers gets ripped off. I forgot they are located in Houston. I wonder if the hurricane is causing some of the delays and lack of communication from them. Any idea how much 1/10 ounce AGEs sell for? Bullion spot price?
Will these coins sell for spot or is there a premium with them? They sell for around $150.00 what is the buy price?
Ok, I'll clarify, and I'm just speaking of my experience. I responded to a TV ad for US Money Reserve. They are in Texas. They are NOT a scam. Back when I bought my "customer limit of ten 1/10 oz gold coins" the price was like 125$ each. They were delivered on time, perfect condition, no problems. They put a limit of 10 coins at "cost". They give you deal, and they get a name and number of someone that buys gold coins.
The world is turned upside down. If I caught a waiter taking a picture of my credit card, I'd knock the front teeth out of his mouth. (Taekwondo gang). Then, of course, I would be arrested and sued in civil court where low lifes that don't work populate the jury pools. Sad fact of life--many thieves today are thieves because they don't fear a beating within a inch of their lives.
Answered my own question: APMEX will buy these gold coins for spot price, ie, $133.00 each. @$115 + s/h works out to around $15.00/coin profit The guys that bought them @ $110.00/coin really scored. Guess they can retire to the Florida Keys or Houston
I agree with Jason A. post #97. It appears there is a small profit to be made. But in the long run it's not worth it to have to deal with disreputable sellers. You have to dodge them, argue with them, dispute credit card charges, phone block them. And you are encouraging that future behavior from them, by rewarding them with your business.
I can only speak for myself, but so far... I placed an order with them. That's it. it's only been a few days though. In the past, I purchased from MCM (govmint) and have had a couple phone calls, and monthly catalog/magazine at my house. I hate that they sent an unwrapped coin magazine to my home. It was nothing I couldn't handle though. And would order from them again. (unsubscribed to everything) Anyway, I'll wait until this company actually causes grief, or problems, before I condemn them. Only time will tell how things will work out with them. Besides, another member of my household may be interested in the offer also.
What in the world are you talking about? At this point, there is zero evidence they are "disreputable sellers." "You have to dodge them, argue with them, dispute credit card charges, phone block them. And you are encouraging that future behavior from them, by rewarding them with your business." ????? Do you have any evidence to support your statement? You sound like a citizen of the Socialist Republic of California. Where businesses' need to wade through a morass of consumer protection laws.
