I just got wierded out by the fact that it's not legal to sell them on E-bay, and therefore maybe not anywhere. Maybe I should have kept them, but I traded them now, so I guess I'll miss out on their eventual rise.
Don't worry about it. You're right, you're not supposed to sell them on ebay but people still do and ebay ain't doing diddly squat about it, as usual.
Take back my post, I guess the SS changed their mind, apparently they will seize peoples stuff cause they feel like it
You people have very bad information. Please get a clue. This isn't limited to ebay. It's definitely illegal to sell, trade or display Norfeds (contraband.) http://www.coinworld.com/Articles/ViewArticle/liberty-dollars-may-be-subject-to-seizure In Mass., LCS had $2k in Norfeds seized in October; this has happened to others too. The coin shows are now banning them also: http://www.coinweek.com/education/central-states-convention-bans-liberty-dollars/ Sure, like cannabis you CAN still sell/trade "if you want to"... but you also must accept whatever local risk and penalties, accordingly. There are still Norfed auctions on feeBay, btw; forbidden yet ongoing. So it goes; take whatever risks you choose.
Top comment on the coinworld.com article much summarizes everything: "So I find this whole notion to be completely ironic. The fools at the Secret Service will swoop in and seize a silver coin that IS not a copy of our currency because they see it as a threat. Yet the supposedly brilliant minds in the Justice Department and Secret Service cannot find a single counterfeit coin on eBay coming in from China? Does anyone wonder why there is no faith in Washington?"
http://www.coinworld.com/Articles/ViewArticle/liberty-dollars-may-be-subject-to-seizure The Liberty Dollar represented “a pyramid scheme imbedded with fraud” that had nothing to do with barter or trade, according to Rose. Maybe they should look into those Federal Reserve notes that I see floating around from time to time.
Yeah. I've got a slight interest, but don't think I'd buy one. If he would have printed them without "USA" would that have made it kosher? Or would he also need to take off the dollar amount in addition? Seems like if USA isn't on the coin, you wouldn't know what dollar they are trying to represent.
Well, yes that's ironic. But let's not pretnd it was just the coins. I will remind you of Nuthouse's claim that 21 million$ in LIBERTY NOTES were circulating. Folks who bought those lost nearly everything. That WAS a "pyramid/Ponzi" >>TRUE. These still sell on eBay too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NORFED-SILVER-CERTIFICATE-AMERICAN-LIBERTY-CURRENCY-MINT-CONDITION-10-00-/281045160254 There's no shortage of idiots n Amerika, obv.
It's no mistake that some are still being sold on ebay. After the sale both seller and buyers names are turned over to SS so they can track them down and search for more to confiscate.
I think its plain stupid you can't sell a silver round on Ebay. Why doesn't the gov go after drug dealers instead of coin collectors. So what if these say $ on them...so do many things...gift certs...etc... How is it fraud for Norfed to sell Liberty Dollars right above spot. It seems more than fair to me. Jewelry is sold at many times melt..yet often cost no more to tool than a fine coin or medal...is jewelry fraud? No...to those who want to buy it.
The problem was Bernard von Nothaus tried to circulate his money and tried to have businesses using his coins instead of US dollars. When other money is circulated then the US dollars are not and the feds do not like that one bit. von Nothaus could be a rich man if he played his cards right, problem was for whatever reason he thought it was ok to circulate his coins instead of circulating US coins. If he would have simply made his silver rounds and sold them everything would be fine, but he didn't. That's where he screwed up. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/25/u...his-fate-behind-bars.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 "In 2006, with millions of the coins in circulation in more than 80 cities, the United States Mint sent Mr. von NotHaus a letter advising that the use of his currency “as circulating money” was a federal crime. He ignored this advice, and in 2007, federal agents raided the offices in Evansville, seizing, among other things, copper dollars embossed with the image of Mr. Paul. Two years later, Mr. von NotHaus was arrested on fraud and counterfeiting charges, accused of having used the Liberty Dollar’s parent corporation — Norfed, the National Organization for Repeal of the Federal Reserve — to mount a conspiracy against the United States. It became real easy for the government to convict the guy cause he blew it."
I think they are just bullion coins. They are .999 silver, so they would never have worked as a circulating currency anyway. They are way too soft for that.
Actually there already was some smaller companies accepting them for food, gas, chiopractor, hair salons etc. He focused his idea on militia members and their sympathizers and they were just getting started. Ron Paul supporters were targeted to use the coins as well. It was starting to work but it was a stupid idea from the beginning. Mr. Nothaus got a warning letter from the Feds so he should have simply stopped, but he figured he was smarter than everyone else.
Nuthouse was a liar and ponzi wizard, like that other Bernie. Why isn't he in jail yet? Making a competing currency and funnelling it to US anti-govt militia groups is begging to get busted. His 'not-coin'age was no longer an art project or whatevah. Pity he didn't go out w/ a bang, like David Koresh.
Well, whatever he was, he's out of business now. I think pre-64 "junk silver" is the way to go if bartering is the aim. He was looking for trouble and he found it.
He's not in jail yet because he keeps finding ways to put off his sentencing date. A few weeks ago he was living in Malibu but he just moved down to Florida. I think the dude is gonna split, heck that's what I would do. He's 68 years old, there's no way he will live through a 20 year sentence. So he moves down to Florida and jumps on a slow boat to any country that will take him or he just hides out. If his ego is half as big as I think it is, he's outta here. What better way to become legendary than to split?
