Nickel looks like hell but...

    Now this thing looks like it got caught up under a lawn mower but it thought those raised bumps on the reverse was odd since the lettering seems to be died ontop of them. What do you think?

    Butchered coin for sure. Too bad. It's a war nickel.

    What do you mean by "died ontop of them"?

    Probably hits on the Obverse that has pushed the metal up on the reverse, kinda like shooting it with a BB gun. And if nothing else you have about 90 cents in silver from that coin.

    I wonder if the coin might have lost a lot of weight due to corrosion, with the bumps emerging in spots that were somehow protected? Does it look thinner than a normal nickel?

    I think he means that the bumps were struck onto the coin by the mint. Die strike hence "died" :bag:

    Sorry Thomas.. not an error.
    I also metal detect and have dug up all sorts of strange looking coins but they are mostly Environmental Damage.
