I like high-grade large cents, but I can’t afford them without problems.

This 1861 O FS-007 CSA Seated Half dollar is close to problem-free, but it has shipwreck effect. I think it is one of the nicest, if not THE nicest, recovered from the SS Republic.

I think the Australian eBay seller touched up this coin a tiny bit before putting it in the envelope, thereby ruining its problem-free status. Still a really nice MS-67/8 Morgan otherwise.

I wish, no I bought it at auction earlier in the year - it is graded with a net XF details grade and described as a detectorists find.

Sometimes I just can't pass on some of these.

ANACS gave this one AU55 details, rim bump. :(

From these photos, DOUG gave it AU58.

I think the photos reflect the in-hand appearance. I'm not inclined to dump it. Crack it, maybe, someday, but not dump it.

I think "rim bump" is a really lame reason a coin gets "detailed".

I have several 18th century pieces that are detailed. But I rather expect that for an 18th century coin in my price range…… This one got by me. I bought this with a lot in the late 1990’s. I didn’t detect the cleaning until I sent it in to be encapsulated.

Here's a couple of raw coins with problems that I still like:

Am I the only one BLIND to the problems of many of these coins?

I think that's one point of the thread -- there are a lot of "problem coins" that actually still look quite nice.

Here is mine: the only 1928 P I could afford that came close to my set. Credit should go to @Mainebill for pointing me to the auction. I may upgrade years down the road, but right now she remains a nice filler.
