    Gold currently at $1116'ish......

I would love to see it break $1200+.... is anyone buying the Winter Olympic coins? Whether silver or gold? Maybe I'll pick up a silver one just for the heck of it but I kinda told myself not to get into this stuff for the numismatic side of things....

You're right. It makes me wonder if it's kind of a media hit piece. Take advantage of the strong dollar right now and talk about how rosey things are, how we are in such great shape....how everything regarding the stimulus's have gone according to plan......

Why they won't hammer our gov't and talk about the Job Bills is really another stimulus bill is asking too much from our 4th branch....

    I agree wholeheartedly......

Nah, not buying them. I do however like the special Vancouver 2010 colorized silver loonie from the Canadian Mint. I don't really care for colorized coins all that much but this one didn't seem so gaudy. 40,000 minted, will probably be a sell out commem.

Yeah I kinda get a little OCD about this stuff. If I get one, then for the 2014 Winter Olympics I'll want one too....then I'll start looking back and trying to pick up the 2006 coins!! It's just how my mind works.

The colorized ones are very pretty....I wouldn't even care much if it goes up or down in price, just nice to look at....

But with only 40,000 minted like you said, I'm shocked it's not sold out already???

I don't think they are dealing in numismatic coins anymore, these would have to be bullion for them to get into current issues. They have been moving away from collectible coins, mostly liquidating their surplus end of last year in a few sales pushes. They do still have a lot of TPG graded coins but I wonder if they are only buying those at ridiculous low prices and reselling with numismatic premiums, listing them in their bullion categories whenever they have them available, but otherwise avoid obtaining them... they might also have someone in house checking incoming coins that would grade high if submitted to the TPGs and may still do this to make more off some popular coin issues when graded.

    Oh....

So these wouldn't be considered numismatic?

Strictly speaking anyone can collect anything making something collectible. The coins you linked to are certainly true coins minted with a denomination by a governing entity and are every bit a part of numismatics, but I think they are primarily considered special designs on a bullion coin for one year of issue only and therein lies the 'limited' nature of these coins. As the title says, these are really 'silver maples' but feature a special design.

I'm not sure why there is a 25 piece limit per customer, Apmex have been selling them since late summer of 2009 when released and they haven't run out. I don't know what the "limited mintage" Apmex refers to actually is, as any coin is typically limited to the year they are minted. Do you have a current mintage figure that shows a specific limited number allowed to be coined?

These other coins recently came out and appear to be much more limited in mintage numbers: Vancouver 2010 Look of the Games Gold and Silver Coins Launch [2/9/2010] I don't really watch Canadian issues that much so I am not as up on mintage numbers for any of their coins.
